Tyre size question

Featured Replies

For Stock 18" rims , skoda tells us to use  215/50R18    7Jx18 ET45

i want to use a wheel that is 8jx18 ET45  will i got problem if i use the 215/50R18   tyre , or it will be streched out !?

So 8jx18 ET45  with 215/50R18

and the second question is  .if i use 225 will i see significant change in consumption ?

Any rim will take a variety of tyre widths.  There’s an optimum width along the way.

215 to 225 is unlikely to make a significant change to consumption.

@Tezaman - Well, a 215 or 225 width tyre is within the recommended range for an 8 inch width wheel. I refuse to give any advice on inset-offset numbers though.

As to any effect on fuel economy, that will depend partly on the make and model of both the tyres you presently have, and the ones you intend fitting.

Which 'stock' 18" rims? My 2.0 TDi SE-L came on 18" rims with 225/50 Bridgestones from Skoda. This is the recommended size for my car........

I've just booked in to change all 4 this week after 2 years and 30,000 miles. Booked for Michelin Primacy 3 to replace the Turanzas. VWFS choice rather than mine but happy to try a change

Yes, the sidewalls on a 215/50R18 tyre are too stretched out on an 8J rim. It's better to fit a 215/50 tyre to a 7J rim or even a 6.5J rim. Fitting a 215/50 tyre to an 8J rim will leave your alloy rims very exposed to kerbing damage and give a hard ride as the sidewalls will be too stretched out.

With an 8J rim you can fit a 245/45R18 tyre, but this might be too wide for the Karoq.

On wheel-size.com they list a 235/40R19 tyre on an 8Jx19 ET45 rim as fitting a 4x4 version of the Karoq. On non-4x4 versions, nothing wider than a 215/50R18 tyre fitted to a 7jx18 ET45 rim is mentioned. Do bear in mind that wheel-size.com often has errors, so do check with other sources of information.

I am using 235/50/R18  on 8J alloys even on Dropped machine.  215  are to small for our car IMHO

245 fits perfect as well, but better on 8.5J.  235 is ideal for 8J
