Media display query.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. Can you help ? I have a skoda mk 3 2013 it has a media display which is the bolero number,  5E0 919 650 B.  I tried to put a new display unit in, the black plug fits fine it lights up  but the screen is blank, also the smaller plug doesnt fit the new unit, its the same but opposite if you know what i mean. Do both plugs have to be connected for the screen to activate ? The new display is ,   5E0 919 605 M.

  • john999boy changed the title to Media display query.

This display will not work with your car unless you change the radio.

Do you mean the unit in the glove compartment ?

I was told when i bought it it would be a straight swap , plug and play, and that i just need a Skoda SD card to activate the Satnav.

That’s inaccurate. The screen is just a screen, a slave to the display but the Bolero MIB1 unit in your car has a resolution of 240x400 and is not compatible with the 8 inch screen. The radio unit is the brains of the operation and navigation, SmartLink etc is all performed by the radio. Budget around £5-600 to have that replaced with a used one (either a MIB2 or 2.5 Amundsen or a MIB2 Columbus) which will go through the process of having the Component Protection removed, the features reactivated and patches installed or other rework costs dealt with. Then after adding a GPS antenna and shaving some connections down you will be good to go and you’ll be able to use this screen.

Thank you. What unit do i need then in the glove compartment ? do you know the part numbers so i can look for one, is there a few that will work ? the screen i have  5EO 919 605 M , I believe is a Columbus.

The screen is a MIB2.5 Amundsen screen. You will need a MIB2 Amundsen radio with the part number 5Q0035874A or B or MIB2.5 Amundsen 5Q0035874C which is the unit that originally matched the screen. Also available is the MIB2 Columbus which adds 3D maps, retains the CD drive, adds DVD, HDD, option for DAB+ and 4G LTE. Part number is 3V00350xx (various work). I did read on the internet that the number 5E0 919 605 M is a columbus  screen.

That’s not correct, PFL Columbus screens are 5E0919606 and have soft keys and swivel wheels, FL Columbus screens are 5E0919606D and have no swivel wheels. I’ve had all of the screens on my car at this point 😂 The screen you have is for a MIB2.5 Amundsen.

I see, Great so which unit do you recommend as long as its compatible and satnav works thats all i need.

Any of the part numbers I have listed there will do you. 5Q0035874A used to be the cheapest but the scene has changed lately as VW closed the back door on the old way to hack these so I suggest contacting Pawel (Pab567) for updated prices and rework details for each unit as the procedure is different for each one.

OK thanks for that, My local garage has the software to do the adjustments so hopefully all will be fine.

fingers crossed .

They have ODIS-E with connection to VW servers? The radio rework requires extensive knowledge of the MIB systems as well as hardware and software hacks in the some cases. If you know someone in the UK who can remove Component Protection for you this may be an advantage but it’s best to talk to Pawel first as some radios need the CP removing by him to work correctly. Skoda can remove CP but in many cases dealers don’t know how to and no amount of dealer coding will ever make the nav and SmartLink work as the FeC’s won’t match up with the FeC’s the chassis number is registered with.

Since couple of weeks I can rework any Technisat / Preh (Preh has taken Technisat over) unit into Plug&Play version (CP switched off, all features activated - including media Command and Performance Monitor) with SW only - no more need to open the unit to install HW patch, no more need for CAN filter. This allows using of MIB2 Bolero and Amundsen in systems with CANTON amplifier :)

Thanks for that . How much does that cost and do i have to send you the unit, do you know the number of which unit would be best for the display screen number  5EO 919 605 M.
