Not starting after Turbo change?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, just changed the turbo on my mk1 fabia vrs and now the car is not starting.

After i refitted everything i primed the turbo by unplugging injector loom on the side of the engine. Cranked it over 3 times for 10seconds each time and then plugged it back in.

The car then started up and ran for about 20seconds, stalled itself and now it won't start back up and just the red oil light is flashing? Plugged my little code reader in and there was a code for the injectors so deleted that, Checked the fuses on the battery and inside the drivers side of the dash and they all seem okay?

so bit stuck on what it might be now so hoping someone can help!😩😩

No need for that priming nonsense otherwise you'd have to do it every time you started the car from cold, and you don't.

Flashing oil lamp suggests you have very low oil pressure, that lamp should go out as you crank it, how did your old turbo fail?

Is the oil light not just flashing as the "oil pressure monitor"  inhibit period is running out due to extended engine cranking - I've always had that with VW Group petrol engined cars when cranking with the fuel or ignition disabled.

Normally by the time from start of cranking to the removal of oil pressure monitoring, the engine is running and normal oil pressure has been built up due to higher engine revs as the engine is now running.

Edit:- sorry but I don't have anything useful to help with the actual non starting though!  The turbo is free to rotate?

Look at what you have changed or disturbed first - I'd start by checking the injector connector / and or loom. The looms are known for becoming fragile overtime as the wiring sits in hot oil and if disturbed....

Also what was removed / disturbed when replacing the turbo (eg fuel lines / filters etc, vacuum pipes)

Check everything that was disturbed even if you think it's not relevant.

Hi guys, thanks for all the help and advice.

After checking over things it looked like i hadn't fully locked the injector loom back in but i also went and bought a new oil pressure switch today and also took the battery off for a good recharge and after a few pumps on the accelerator it fired right up!

Took it for a short and steady drive and also seems to be good for now!🤞
