Has the sunroof leaked?

Featured Replies

Yet(i) again, I've come to the fount of all Skoda knowledge for some wisdom.

When looking at buying a Yeti fitted with the Panoramic Sunroof fitted ('Don't do it!!!' shouts the whole forum), are there ways to tell if:

a) It's never leaked?

b) It has leaked in the past but is now fixed?

c) It still has a leak?

I know there are the obvious signs like squelchy carpets or stained trim, but is there any extra recommended reading or subtle (or not) clues that one should look/sniff/read for?

I've read about the leaks from the frame joints or drain tubes, are there any other causes of worry? A checklist, maybe?

I'm happy fixing stuff, but I would to know about it before I buy so I can bargain effectively.

Cheers,

T

Although I have a pan roof on my Yeti and it doesn't leak, (had the drain pipes "sealed anyway as a matter of prevention), I would not buy another Yeti with a pan roof.

It may be like the DSG failures being reported, ie they must have sold millions of units and I assume the vast majority of DSG's are perfectly OK.

It would be nice to know what the actual failure rate is for leaking roofs. For me the fact that there is obviously a fundamental design / manufacturing problem and if it does happen then it is a time consuming and costly fix would be enough to put me off another. Problem is even if it hasn't leaked up to the point of purchase is no guarantee that it won't leak at some point in its life. OK if you are buying new with a 3 year warranty. It's interesting that even if you get an extended warranty the sunroof is not covered!

I do like the glass roof although I never bother opening it, and if there was a permanent professional "fix" to seal the roof and then deactivate the mechanism I would reconsider.

Ha! Mastic and gaffa tape over the switch not an option then?😐

Seriously, thanks for the pointers. I might avoid the pan' roof then...

.as an extra precaution I have also taped my roof up with clear Gorilla tape...£6 for a role and about 20min work!...

There are two types of Skoda sunroofs, those that have leaked and those that will leak. Don’t do it!

Skoda's panoramic sunroofs are still leaking, tales of woe in the Karoq, Kodiaq, MkIII Octavia and MkII & MkIII Superb forums.

..amazing, and I bet the Skoda stance is "we are not aware of any problems so it must be the customers fault and we are unable to support you"?

(Crosses off several potentials)

Thank you folks. I'll revise my shopping list.

..plenty of SEL drives about now?...all the spec with no pan roof!

MY ex PCH car is for sale for anyone interested.

It never gave me an ounce of bother in nearly three years of hire, and was all in fine working order when it went back. BCA guy said it was immaculate.

I see someone has pinched the rubber floor and boot mats that I left in it 🤔

It's also fitted with nokian weatherproof all season tyres.
