New car advice

Hi gang.

In the next few months (before next year anyway) I'm planning on selling my Fabia and getting something Bigger and faster:rolleyes:

The car I've got in mind is a Saab 9000 Aero

I've always loved these cars, and frankly for about

8850.attach

Nice cars, my uncle had two, ran them both to about 250,000m with just normal serviceing.

Is is worth spending the extra for the sport chassis

Yes..... the only weakness of the older Saabs is the suspension and brakes (sounds familiar to another sort of car). If you get an Areo without the sports suspension you will never be able to fully utilise the power properly

Hi gang.

I've always loved these cars' date=' and frankly for about £2000 you can have one hell of fast car.

The spec of an Aero reads like this; 4cyl DOHC 16 valve with high pressure turbo, 225 bhp, 0-60 in 6.7 sec, top speed of 149 mph and fuel economy that's not 'much' worse than my Fabia- typically between 20 & 40mpg!

Or for half the price i could have a 'normal' 9000 turbo 16, which ONLY has

200 bhp, 0-60 in 7.2 sec and a top speed of 146 mph.

Is is worth spending the extra for the [i']sport chassis and special leather trim?[/i]

The normal one comes with leather as well but its not as 'sporty'.

I'm also interested to hear of any other cars that offer a similar amount of pace 'n' space for the money (about £2000)

I've got an open mind;)

where I live there is a bit of 1 mile dual carrigeway between roundabouts, (bit of a local drag strip) and I came off one roundabaout in the inside (left) lane, with a saab 9000 aero in the outside lane, and it trounced me on the run up to the next roundabout, so you won't be dissapointed with the performance I'll garuntee that!! I used to have an old 900 turbo (a reg! [1983] before the avent of watercooled turbos!) and I loved that car.... shame it blew up really.... the old ones wern't too reliable, new ones are good though

EDIT: similar pace and money, buy a good example of a lancia thema turbo, late reg with the 16v engine from the integrale, I had one of these too, and it was the fastest car I've ever owned, they run as 220 bhp standard, very "Q" car, or if you can stretch to more, a thema 8.32 which has the ferrari engine in it, same performance as the turbo (only left hand drive though..) but jeez, it really does have a ferrari engine! ;) my turbo was reliable too, never broke in the four years I owned it, and passes every MOT with about a £100 bill a time! :)

I had a 9000 Aero - put out about 350-400bhp :D It was my daily driver, had it 4 years and did over 200k miles in it from new. Rather brisk, even though the lag could be measured with a calendar

As standard they are very good cars and very comfortable.

One word of warning though, if it goes wrong it is very expensive. I had a head gasket done under warranty just before the warranty ran out. It went again after about 5 months (out of warranty by then) as the head was cracked and it wasn't spotted when the original gasket was changed - cost including labour to put it right? £1950  At least SAAB put their hand in their pocket and paid half after much argument as it should have been spotted earlier. Servicing isn't too bad, GSF are good for parts.
