Front brake shield rattling, easily removed?

Featured Replies

Just started driving the car this weekend, thought it was wind noise at speed, but it turns out that the passenger side front brake shield is rattling, fortunately the driver's side is missing completely, lol!

Is it easily removed, or is it a disc off job?

PS, 2016 1.4tsi if that makes any difference.

I has this same issue a few years ago - It was rattling as it had badly corroded - I jacked the car, and it literally fell off.  When I did disc and pads about 2 months later I put new ones on both sides.

If i remember correctly its with 3 bolts on the "inside" o its a disc off job, usually those bolts are corroded REALLY badly and takes work to get them of, if nothing else a easy way would be to cut the shield off as much as you can if you cant get the bolts and leave them for a later time to remove.

I've only got the jack that comes with the car, and I wouldn't trust that one to start taking discs off, I'm going to see if I can park that side on a kerb and crawl underneath to cut it off, if not, it can wait until I can get it to a garage. 👍

Did mine today on the 2015 Yeti, they were rotten as a carrot, easy job, 3 bolts which always undo easily if you have the right torx bit, same bit used to remove the brake disc.

Expect to pay about €9.50 each.

Just dropped the Mrs off to do some shopping, Kwik-Fit open opposite, popped in on the off chance they'd remove it for me, jacked it up and tore it off in 5 minutes flat, perfect! 😁
