Wiring for starter motor has snapped, I'm trying to get off the clip for the solenoid, which way do I need to pull that little red tab?? Towards the wire and out or inwards? Seems like it isnt bugding at all 

Take the friction load off the retaining latch by pushing the connector further onto the solenoid firmly, then lift the red clip towards where the wire was, gently.

You'll probably hear a little click, then start pulling the connector instead.
