Exhaust manifold

Featured Replies

Hi i am missing an exhaust manifold stud as the thread is away at engine end.will it leak or be ok without it?was thinking of leaving it or fixing stud in with liquid metal?

Please don't do that, just fit a helicoil and a new stud, it's ten minutes work and a recoil kit is cheap as chips on Ebay.

Will it leak without it?never done heli coil before

Yes it will leak, fitting a helicoil is easy, just follow the instructions or watch a video on YT.

So you're saying the stud has snapped off in the head rather than just stripped the threads?

Its stripped the threads. So do you mean i can just tap it and put heli in?if so do you know what kit i need aint got a clue about sizes etc

Cheers

Probably M8 x 1.25, do you have the old stud and nut still, if the threads torn out then yes you can generally tap straight into the alloy without drilling by doing it a bit at a time and clearing the swarf as you go.

You'll have to buy a new stud before you start anyway.
