Fitting rear bumper with added parking sensors

Featured Replies

Car was sadly written off after non insured van hit into rear of my Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo 61plate. I have purchased a new tail gate and bumper. The bumper is from a donor car 63 plate, has standard parking sensors, unlike my broken bumper. Anyone know where to plug in the clip for the parking sensors? Thanks.

If you did not have them originally, then your car wont have the Parking aid ecu / control box which is behind the rear left trim panel.

Offcourse you could probably add to yours......however Im not sure you would have the wiring to the front of the car as well, But I would think its doable.

Rear parking aid is part of interior loom, so as mentioned I doubt its a standard loom, however always happy to be wrong, so if you look behind rear left trim panel in the boot, your looking for an un-used 16 PIN brown connector. If its there you would just need to get the ecu / control unit, sounder and code the car with VCDS or similar.

Your easiest way to use them is, and will be very expensive, to check the Kufatec website for parts, typically Kufatec sell complete kits, which are:- parking controller + cabling from the parking controller into the rest of the car + buzzer + rear cabling to bumper + sensors.

As you have the rear cabling and sensors, you would only require to buy the rest of the cabling  and the other parts, the parking controller could be bought used from ebay as well as the buzzer, be aware that that car would then need programming to include rear parking system, and depending on the trim level of your car, you might event need to replace some other controllers.

If I were you, I'd be looking into this very deeply before starting to buy things - or forget it.  I added front parking sensors to my 2011 Audi S4 that came with rear parking sensors, I took that on as a project and it cost a lot of money to get it fitted by me to exactly the same as factory fit, but I was happy to do that to achieve what I wanted.

Alternatively, if you are really deeply into car DIYing, then maybe consider going for front + rear parking sensors retrofit!

As said above , left hand side panel as you look into the boot. Pain in the arse to get the panel off but theyre usually behind that panel glued or held on using Velcro.

I have fitted the Cisco ones off Ebay to my previous Mk1 Fabia, daughters 60 plate Polo and my current  58 plate Mk2 Fabia and found them to be good. Not sure if they will fit in existing holes or would have the required voltage as it is a simple case of tapping into reversing light positive with a good earth. Buzzer and control box stay in back of car. £17 so a positive cheap alternative, and you can choose colour.

I think you meant Cisbo.

Yes you are correct mrfg, and just to clarify regarding the voltage, not sure how having a canbus system which mine may/may not have would affect operation as this is something I do not fully understand given there are options for buying canbus adaptor's for reversing sensors.

I have a 2013 vRs and fitted the whole parking sensor system myself with a lot of help from my son.  As others have said the control unit is fitted in the boot, the bleeper is fitted low on the B-pillar and wiring must be provided to the gearstick to register the car is in reverse.  Also, a wire is required to the fuse box on the RH side of the car beside the steering column.  To get the wiring in the passenger seat was removed (care need with the air bag connections) and it's a bit of a pain routing the wires behind the front dash panels but nothing too daunting if you are used to working on car electrics.

I had to fit the complete system including the rear sensors. I didn't buy a kit but collected all the parts from various suppliers mainly in the Czech republic.  I don't remember the total cost when it was installed in 2014 but all the bits were then only a few tens of pounds.

When all the pieces are fitted you then have to tell the car they exist.  This requires a program like VCDS installed on your laptop and the interconnect cable.  The interconnect cable is expensive, I think about £250, but as at the time both my sons and myself had vRs models it was too bad spread over three vehicles and has proved an extremely useful diagnostic tool over the years.  VCDS will also allow you to change the frequency and loudness of the bleeper if you wish.

After all this is done the parking sensors will show on the radio screen when activated.
