Brake discs for vRS

After just getting a 60K service my dealer tells me I need new pads and discs all round. Im not disputing this as the rear pads are non existant and the front discs are badly scored.

My problem is that in the wet, my brakes are awful. After driving for a while on a fast stretch of road in the wet, I apply the brakes and.......Nothing! I have to pump them a little to get them to work. Scares the life outta me sometimes!

So Im looking for a new set of discs and pads, but not the standard OE ones, anyone got any ideas?

We do Tarox discs and pads.

These are uprated discs and apads.

These are 312`s that are on the front of your car.

These are the same as the Mk4 Golf

Get better pads, not discs. The OEM discs are actually quite good. For pads I can recommend Ferodo DS2500's.

And if you are having to pump the brakes it sounds like the fluid is past it's best and/or needs bleeding.

If it hadn't been changed for a while I'd get that done as well.

Even the best brakes in the world will struggle to stop you if there is nothing to push them with

A few years back I had a 106 - One of my master cylinders went and I had similar symptoms of having to pump brakes. You may wish to get your master cylinder checked out?

Re: issue with brakes after driving in the wet - I think this has been covered before if you want to do a search on it. On the motorway a film of water gets onto the brakes and can lead to the experience you've described. I think some cars 'pulse' their brakes periodically to keep them dry.

I started a thread about that particular problem, thought I needed new pads but turned out pads were fine, it was the aforementioned film of water build-up. Was wondering how BMW's (and other makes) 'self-drying' brakes work, I take it they pulse very slightly from time to time as you said, excellent idea as I too have scared the bejesus out of myself on the motorway when braking hard and suddenly realising nothing's happening!!!
