drivers door issue

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Pulling my hair our a bit with this one. I know the common fault on these with the central locking issue etc. mines always had it but now the faults are: No central locking, all 3 passenger windows don't work from drivers door (all work from individual doors), electric mirror doesn't work.

I've replaced the drivers module. still same problem.

I've seen this before on an old thread but couldn't find a solution. On the drivers door loom there are 2 grey/blue wires going to 1, a handful of brown wires all together and 2 yellow/brown wires together. All taped up. and on the passengers door loom there is just 3 yellow/brown wires together.

Is this right? if not where should they go? and how do I get stuff working on my drivers door.

Thanks in advance!!

Firstly, was the module the exact same part number and prefix as the old unit?, as letter prefixes do make a difference.

As you have the looms stripped out, have you done a continuity check on each loom?.

Also worth checking the fuses in case you have accidentally shorted something to ground during the stripdown.

That wiring in the pictures definately does not look right, are you the original owner to know if any loom mods have been done for some reason?.

Does the car have any aftermarket audio speakers fitted at all?.

the module was off a mk4 golf.

fuses fine, not original owner, no aftermarket speakers. Someone else on here had the exact same thing with the wiring which is curious? brown is negative/ground. the brown/yellow wires I'm not sure, 1 wire goes to the module, the others go elsewhere

Brown/Yellow is a switched ground from the door lock unit

Grey/Blue is the supply for the switch backlighting

I've just gone through this stupid process, and I've now done it more than once.

In my case I was lucky as I had a complete donor car to pull everything from. But if I was in your place, I would try to get some original looms and replace them. Whether that would be replacing the wire or the whole loom itself.

As you can see on the black connector plugs, there is a lot of corrosion. You would ideally need to check every single wire like Phil has said above. De-pin the terminals, and clean them all up and then plug them in to test before refitting.

While I've done some of the above, I will buy some more looms and strip them down, clean them up and then rewrap them in tape and some waterproof tape to prevent the same issue arising.

All the best,

so whats the deal with these wires, where should they go? can't find any cut wires elsewhere? and strange that someone else had the exact same with same tape. the passenger door looked like it had never been stripped down before, whereas the drivers has before. can i mend this at home (i have the stuff to do it) just need to know what goes where. wiring diagram for the door loom? can't find one

So this was/is my temp fix on my Black VRS

Thankfully my issues was no where near as bad on my Red VRS that I've recently fixed.

But as I said above, I will get new/used looms from cars broken or at scrap yard and strip them down and remake them.

I'm no good at wiring really, I just matched up the wires and rejoined.
