automatic transmission

Featured Replies

I have a skoda fabia 1.4 2002 automatic can anyone tell me if and where the automatic transmission fluid is

There's usually a separate dipstick for checking the level once the gearbox has warmed up and while the engine's running, check the handbook for the correct procedure, never top up unless you're absolutely certain the level is low.

There is no dipstick, you need to get the gearbox up to temperature and check the temperature with VCDS (35~45c) then unscrew the plug on the bottom of the gearbox sump pan

If ATF drips out of the ATF inspection opening (approx. 1 drop per second) via the overflow tube before the ATF has reached 40°C, the ATF level is correct.  If nothing comes out then you need a filling tool and fill until the oil drips from the removed plug

Do u have to keep the car engine running will u do the transmission oil level check

How many minutes it take for the transmission to get to 40 degrees

@Stan44   That will very much depend on the ambient temperature in Barbados at the time, and the temperature of the oil at the time it is put in the gearbox.

Is the ATF sitting at 25*oC or higher, or maybe at around freezing?

When I start my car to drive my rpm Rev all the way to the red...then jump roughly into 2nd gear...

@Stan44 - well, that's not right. I'd suggest draining the transmission, then refilling it with an approved ATF (not Sylkoline because VAG gearboxes don't like that otherwise good brand.

OK I was thinking its my clutch that gone bad...or my speed sensor...it very frustrating

@Stan44 - Well, my suggestion is based on ZF Transmissions recommending changing ATF every 4 years or 48_000 miles (76_000km) and what they've forgotten about automatic gearboxes isn't worth knowing!

All automatic transmissions should have the fluid changed at some point.

I have in my head that it's an Aisin Warner gearbox in the Fabia. Pretty sure they also recommend a change at some point.

Cau u guys tell me how to check the transmission fluid level...do I have to keep the engine running ..or do I have to turn off the engine when it meet to 35 degrees

Once at 35 degrees with the engine running remove the plug, the car must be level.
