Is it gonna survive intact?

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon.

I'm talking about my car (see left).

Thing is, there is just me and my wife, both well into our Seventies and `Self Isolating`.

We have arranged things so as no matter how long this goes on for we will never need to go out...other than to the Pharmacy (8 miles away) every 7 days.

So my car only does 16 miles a week on that task!

I do try to nip out around the block in it...say 10 miles once a week.

I have a smart charger so I can keep an eye on the battery.

Now, I reckon this will go on for at least another year in one form or another...so, do you knowledgeable people think I'll get away with 18 miles a week for the next year or so?

The alternative for me, which I am seriously considering, is ending my PCP (yeah I know it'll be costly to do that) returning the car and wait until things get back to some sort of normal and I can buy a new car.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to comments on whether or not my car will survive intact.

Regards

Mike.

I seem to recollect that PCP's can be ended after 50% of the duration has elapsed but maybe weigh up the cost to end early v the cost to continue and then see if there's any benefit in having a driveway queen?

What on earth is a `driveway queen`?

Sits on the drive looking nice but doesn't ever go out for a date/drive.

Thank you for your replies, Chaps, but I'm still wondering about my original question.

What do you think?

I imagine if you use it twice a week even for a relatively short 10 mile drive the battery will cope just don't expect the stop/start to work as it needs longer runs to keep the battery topped sufficiently for it to kick in quickly.

nice new modern car, cannot see the low mileage causing any issues whatsoever, once lockdown restrictions have been lossened you will probably be able to go for a nice long drive, will be nice for you and your partner to get out.

Unless you financially need to then I would keep the car, you never know when yoyu may require it?

All the best and stay safe

Thank you so much.

That's very reassuring.

You all stay safe and well also.

Best Regards

Mike.

Keep the car unless you have settled => 50% of the total finance agreement, in that case you can apply for a voluntary termination on your PCP deal but....

You won’t be able to even get the ball rolling on this at the moment, never mind arranging inspections and collections etc so you will still have a car sitting on the drive regardless of what you end up doing.

I would just keep the car and keep it maintained the best you can until restrictions are eased.

A 16 mile round trip is actually not that bad.

That should be good enough. Its lots of 2-3 mile, from cold, trips that are bad for engines/oil etc.

When you do go to the pharmacy, make the round trip twice so you get the car up to temp for a while - A 32 mile trip?
