Rough idle.

Featured Replies

Hi.

So, I have an Skoda fabia mk2 vRS.

And I'm just wondering if it's normal for the car to have a ruff idle?

Its especially noticable at cold starts and you can feel it in the car.

And ever so slightly when warm.

Thanks in advance :)

Welcome to the forum.

Some report a rough idle, but it need not be normal and not how it should be.

Be sure the latest software was applied, there is a clean fuel filter fitted,

use super unleaded, be sure the air filter is clean, the spark plugs are correctly gapped and the ignition coils are OK.

The car should start and the rpm be about 1,100 and after 40 seconds be at above 800 rpm.

Thanks for the welcome.

About the software, how do I know if its updated or not?

I know that the engien was once replaced with with a new one, I think around 4-5 years ago because of a valve dropping down the cylinder.

I just did a full service aswell last week (the big one because the engien just did 6k km) and they should have fitted a new air filter, fuel filter and plugs. The gaping I could check, the coils I have no knowledge on at all (im used to older cars, this is actually my first car I own from the 2000).

But when I start the car it behaves just as you described, it just feels so violent in the beginning when it's cold.

Do you mind if I ask a follow up question?

With the replacement engine done that should mean the latest software was applied.

Open the airbox and see if the air filter was replaced.

No point guessing what was done at the Service, there should be an invoice showing what parts were used.

Ask whoever did the service, you do not want to go removing the newly fitted spark plugs if the were fitted.

I will do that!

Thanks for the tips.

I hope you have a really great day. :)

What spark plugs did you use?

Make sure if your running any extra modifications for power you use only use NGK BK7EIX plugs gapped at 0.8mm or if standard use NGK PFR7S8EG gapped at 0.8mm(The pfr7s8eg  has a lower resistance so is kinder to the coil packs over time)

Oh i do not know. I sent to service recently so they changed them. Should I make the effort to check and change ?

100% find out what plugs you fitted, these cars are way too fussy about the correct plugs.
