Roomster Mk1 airbag fault light on permanently.

Featured Replies

I disconnected the battery before replacing the blower motor resistor, replaced without disconnecting the Airbag, but airbag warning light on permanently.

I have to replace my blower motor resistor so I will be interested to know the answer.

Did you remove the glovebox which on other models would involve disconnecting the passenger airbag over-ride keyswitch?

If yes and your model has said switch it will indeed trigger an airbag circuit fault code, you said you disconnected the battery, if the switch was reconnected before battery reconnection then it should not be a problem, perhaps you forgot or the connector is not properly seated?

Presumably you turned the ignition on with the passenger side glovebox disarm switch disconnected? Unfortunately this will always trigger the airbag warning light.

The only way to clear it now is using an OBD reader / code reader / diagnostic tool.

Thank you for your reply, I have checked for fault using an OBD reader but no faults showing, but I can't find the AirBag disarm switch mentioned in car handbook your reply  .

My handbook mentions a key operated switch in the storage compartment which I assume is the glove box. If there is no

switch then diagnostic equipment is required.

Thanks for your reply, I don't appear to have the key operated disarm switch on my car, but I have now  checked with diagnostic equipment and it has come up  with " Passenger airbag igniter resistance too low " ?

I finally disconnected & removed the Air Bag, checked the wiring could find no fault ,reconnected the Air Bag , reset fault code. and now all o.k.

Do I need an OBD reader if I replaced the resistor pack? Presumably you first disconnected the battery before you started work to replace the resistor pack. I am quite happy to access the resistor pack but hesistant to mess about with the airbag.

I found it fairly easy to remove the storage compartment above the glove box, and then leaver the air bag out of the dashboard. It was a bit fiddly replacing the Resistor pack. Before doing this I disconnected the battery and left for a few hours because I read on a you tube site that the Air Bag has capacitors that need to discharge before removing. I did need an OBD reader to reset the fault code but you may not. If you look on You Tube you can see a few examples of how to go about this procedure. I hope this will be of some help.
