Mk1 vrs gearbox upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi has anyone upgraded their Mk1 vrs gearbox with the 6 speed petrol OM2 from the cupra r mk1.

Presently have the 0M2 diesel gearbox fitted, runs great but very sluggish so been told that the cupra mk1 6 speed, fits the 1.8t.

Engine modded and mapped to 270 bhp at moment.

Has anyone done this or got any advice on way forward.

Regards

Hi, your car is FWR ou 4WD ?

Just fro t wheel drive, no intentions of converting to 4wd but will eventually fit an LSD.

😃👍

I have a Octavia MK1 SW 20v 1.8 T and I'm research to apply a gear box with 6 gears.

Tbe guy that had tbe car before me fitted a 6 speed diesel to tbe car from a mk4 gt TDI. Incredible top end stuff because of tbe gear ratios but ridiculous amount of lag as you need 350 plus bhp to get it going. So I was told go and source a 6 speed petrol hence on this site. You any luck with anything.

First I need to know if its a direct swap, just take out the gear box with 5 gears and put the other with 6 gear, or need more parts.

You really don't need to do this. With the 6-speed you'll end up near the same ratio as you would with a 5 speed. That's why the final gear is long to keep the revs down and sit at 2.5k @ 60mph. Surely, you're only gaining an extra gear change, this doesn't include the extortionate price for the 6-speed parts (clutch/flywheel).

You'll need:

Cables

Starter

Drive shafts

Hydro line to slave

Power steering hose to rack

Flywheel

Clutch

Box

Gearbox mount bracket

But as you maybe going for bigger power this thread may help?

I'm thinking that can I obtain the best of the two worlds, the performance of te gear/rpm of the 5 gear box and a economic and good final drive for the 6 gear box, I have a Golf V GTI and 6th is amazing and sometimes driving the Skode the sensation that is a missed 6th gear, maybe just impression, to spend this work and money is better swap to 4x4 and use the S3 gear box, I bought this car to be my family car, I'm planing in a 250 CV's car.

@mfo

You’ll see the engine code to the side of your cam cover.

As highlighted in green. If you have a 1.8T MK1 Octavia it’ll be AUQ.

P.S. You don’t need to keep quoting text. We’ll see the messages and it saves a lot of scrolling. 😝

I can't see in my car, the only place is the timing belt cover.

If you google VAG engine codes, there will be tables to identify which cars were fitted with this engine.

I saw alot of tbles, but I thinking this letters was not AUG !! I know that the most Drive by wire is 180 CV's.
