1.2 TSI 77kw oil A3/B4 or C3

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Can anybody shed any light on oil?

I bought my last oil from Skoda dealer and they sold me Castrol vw50200 A3 spec.

However this year I've been looking at buying quantum oil and all I can find is vw50200 C3 spec

Skoda manual lists vw50200, but at the bottom of the screenshot say C3 is for diesels. Or can vw502 / vw504 be used in either petrol or diesel?

Thanks

VW 502 00 is not for Diesels / TDI's they require VW 507 for fixed or variable servicing.  So that shows as VW 504 / 507.

VW 502 is suitable for fixed servicing intervals with TSI's  not with a TDI.  (5w 40 Full Synthetic most common)

For Variable you need VW 504 (VW 504 / 507 as it shows.  (5w 30 FS III / Long Life most common)

This is an old chart for Euro 5 TSI's to give you an idea.

Brill, thanks just as I thought.

So basically, provided it says either vw502 or vw504 (whichever I can get cheapest) I can use. I change oil at 8k intervals anyway.

I just don't understand why the Skoda dealer told me it must be A3 spec?

I've searched what I should be using in my Toledo, same engine as yours. I've  used Castrol for the last two self services. Obviously shop around for the best deals ATM.

Alternatively find another brand showing the same spec.
