Fabia vrs mk1

Featured Replies

Hi I mmmm new to forums and car modding. I’ve recently bought a fabia vrs mk1 it has done around 127,000 miles. But I have a problem already. When the car is warm around 90 and I drive harsh it’s goes into limp mode or sometimes when I turn it off it will turn on for 2-3 seconds and die off. Any help or advice as I’ve spent £400 already in garage and they don’t know what’s going on.

Hi Kashy, I had from new one of the last mk 1 Octavia's with the same 1.9 pd 130 engine, it suddenly suffered similar issues , loss of power as I passed a row of vehicles on the A69 , wifey and me got a shock as it died and they all passed me!

lay by near by and pulled in , it would  rev up ok  then after an under bonnet look revealed nothing I turned it off for 5 mins, started it again then set off again and all seemed fine until I pushed it from 40 to 60 mph and it limped again.

I drove fine only if I drove gently on the throttle, turned out to be the turbo vanes being gummed up , I suspect independent garage may have used wrong spec oil, had a fuel additive put in tank and was fine for another 20,000 mls until we traded it in.

Might be similar issues.

Yeah, I had that with my Ibiza PD130. It was a mix of the VNT vanes needing cleaning on the turbo and the EGR valve being sooted up. Do a search for "mr muscle" on here and you'll be able to find a guide for cleaning the vanes with some oven cleaner. If you've got a way of lifting the car up and basic spannering skills, it's not hard to do.

The EGR's easy to take off to clean, just be careful of the linkage on the back. Don't use the oven cleaner though as it will eat away at the aluminium housing. There's various pots and potions to clean them, but I just flick any lumps off with a knife and use some petrol and a paintbrush to get the rest clean.

Possibly turbo overboosting due to sticking vanes as has been mentioned.

you can scan it with VCDS and check requested boost vs actual boost to see if it is overboosting.

Thanks everyone for your help. I’ve decided to get the turbo rebuilt. Maybe make it a hydrid as I want to remap it. Would the limp mode be the same thing what’s not letting it start sometimes ? An the egr is getting a blanking plate put on.

Has the car been scanned for fault codes?

No point in spending all that money for a hybrid turbo if you are only going to remap it, stock turbo is fine at mapped power
