Is it worth it

Featured Replies

I’m having problems with my 2006 mk2 vrs, After owning the car for a couple of months the low oil pressure light started to come on intermittently , I had the sump cleaned and the oil pick up pipe replaced but warning light came on again after driving about 25 miles, I’ve replaced the oil pressure sensor but again the oil pressure warning light came on after driving for roughly 25 miles, I’m now being told it’s the oil pump and have been quoted £600 minimum to have it fixed, if the oil pump is knackered and needs replacing wouldn’t the warning light be on permanently and not every now and for a few seconds.

Just wanted to know peoples thoughts on replacing an oil pump on a 2006 vrs with 164000 miles on the clock, I paid £1200 for the car and have been quoted £600 to have it done, is it worth it???

Has the oil filter been changed?

Yes, I did an engine flush and oil and filter change and that’s when the low oil pressure light started to come on, since then I’ve had the sump cleaned and the oil pick up pipe replaced to no avail and then i had a new oil pressure sensor fitted but still getting low oil pressure light on, Have had two oil pressure tests carried out and both times it said oil pressure was fine.

On that basis then, the answer to your question has to be, No.........

Have you scanned the car for faults?

Given its age perhaps it's just an intermittent indication from bad wiring/connections.

Yes have had the car scanned twice with no faults showing

@Stevea61

Since the issue started after a flush and oil and filter change have you not considered that the issue is the Oil Filter.

?

Has that been removed and replaced since the issue occurred?

  • Author

No the filter hasn’t been changed but it is next on the list of things to check.

@Stevea61

Your posts are nonsensical.

First you say the problem started after owning the car for a couple of months and then you had work done which didn't help.

When I asked if the filter had been changed you replied yes and that's when the problem started.

Another member then asked if the filter had been changed and you replied "No the filter hasn’t been changed but it is next on the list of things to check".

Is it just my Asperger's or does anyone else see this post going arse over tit?

If you take the time to read the post properly you will see that he actually asks if the filter has been changed SINCE the trouble began

^^^^ Would have helped............

Not getting shirty cos someone trying to help, makes an honest mistake also helps............

I would suspect it's the engine flush on a high mileage vehicle. Heard of issues with this several times before on different vehicles.

Buy quantum platinum 5w-40, 5l on ebay around £25 quid, warm up engine, once you are sure your engine oil is warmed enough, drain the oil engine, put in purchased quantum, take it for good spirit drive for 1.5 - 2 hrs, make sure you use all rev range, drain the engine oil again and put a new one, can be quantum platinum again with a new oil filter.

The Best engine oil flush you can do. I’m doing it every engine oil service, having 160k miles on the clock and engine going strong without topping up oil between service (servicing every 3-5k miles) and I don’t drive it as a granny.
