Hi,

I’m looking to replace all 4 corners quite soon and am slightly confused by the various options potentially suitable.

225/40/18

225/45/18

235/40/18

What have you found to be the best option and why?

If you have 18" alloys fitted to your car the factory size is 225/40R18 any other may invalidate your insurance.

Yes, as per @shyVRS245 I'd stick with the approved size and then make the tyre choice which will play a much greater part to handling than marginal sizes / profiles. I suppose you could declare a mod, but I don't think it would be a worthwhile change for the hassle , and if they accept the change.

From reading through old posts it seems that the 225/45 profile were on standard some brand new cars. There was confusion there also.

Ok. Wasn’t what I thought to be the case but I suppose exceptions can happen. What is shown on your tyre plate inside fuel cap. Mine is a 2011 petrol and shows 225/40 as the 18 inch size.

Having looked at my tyre sticker I think you or someone is confusing the 17" tyre / wheel combo which was a 225/45 17. Edit, further more the 18" was an option on the Mk2. On the FL I think it was 18" standard. Although that would depend on region.
