Flat battery

Featured Replies

Hi there

Been having problems with battery going flat after moving electric seats when cleaning and playing cd for a short time.

This morning I turned the ignition on and paired and unpaired the bluetooth, opened the electronic boot, went to start the car, flat battery warning.

1 - Is it the battery?

2 - Is it the alternator?

3 - If I need a new battery, I will need to take the existing one off, will I then have to get the car re-coded?

Thank you

If you are not using the car much but using the systems on it and not running the engine, then it’s going to be just battery related. A good starting point is to recharge it for 24 hours to ensure the battery is as good as it can be and see how things are from there.

Otherwise run the engine until the first engine stop occurs with Stop/Start active. This could take an hour or longer depending how discharged the battery is. Stop/start activates when the battery is at a decent state of charge and a bunch of other variables align but it’s a good indicator of battery health and charge.

Its on charge for 24 hours.

It was on number 2 of 7 on the charger.

Thank you

I’m guessing as you have elec seats the battery is an AGM. They take discharging events better than other batteries so shouldn’t need changing.

Just make sure the charger is connected properly as described in the handbook. Jobs a goodun’!

Is "2 of 7" the progression of the charging process?

24 hours should be long enough to fully charge a flat battery.

Either the charger isn't giving sufficient charge, or the battery isn't able to accept it.

What charger are you using?
