Gearbox help!!!

Featured Replies

Ok, so I know very little about cars really...

I bought my Fabia Monte Carlo (Diesel 105bhp) around 12 months ago now. Hasn't missed a beat, but a few months ago the gearbox stopped engaging smoothly. It takes a little force to get it in gear, or if I slightly depress the gear stick(like you do to go into reverse, but not so harshly), it slots in nicely.

I have no idea what this means...  Does anyone have experience with this issue and know how to repair it, cost etc...  I'm thinking of selling as we need a bigger family car now and want to iron the kinks out before I do...

Thanks, Josh.

Would suggest trying to lubricate the mechanism on top of the gearbox that goes down into the box. I had a similar issue with getting into gears and sprayed with WD first then when freed off I used thicker oil from an oil can. Trying to engage the gears, without the engine running, by manually moving the levers within the engine bay.

The suggestion I have are the following:

- gearbox oil change. Makes a massive difference

- gear linkages adjustment and lubrication. Again, massive difference

This is very cheap to try and you'll see if it's mechanical or just TLC.
