DPF Limp Mode

Featured Replies

I have ongoing issues with my octavia estate and the DPF which has never been properly resolved. My garage usually sorts it out but after a few months it comes back. The car went into limp mode last week with DPF light on for some days previously. Garage and every other garage/dealer now closed because of lockdown!!!!!! Is there any point in buying a cheap OBD2 reader and clearing the faults and taking the car for an Italian tune-up? Any advice appreciated!

Thanks

Elwyn

If it already hasn't managed to regenerate there is probably an issue that needs resolving (Unless you have been doing short runs and have ignored the first DPF warning), continuing to drive the car will probably end up filling it up beyond saving, and may require a new one. My advice would be to stop driving it immediately until you find somebody that knows what they are doing.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have an issue with short journeys and had I known that there is a problem with this I would have opted for petrol car. I've always driven Volvos and never had a problem. This Skoda has been nothing but a disaster!

As usual the DPF warning came on and shortly afterwards went into limp mode but I was not able to find a garage which was open so couldn't clear it.

Time to cut my losses I think and get rid of it.

different brands have different warning systems. On some fords you get nothing but one day it's all blocked up beyond return.

Since the lockdown I must have done 10mi in short journeys and the dpf has filled really quickly, where on the motorway it lasts about 350mi.

You need a mechaninc with a proper diagnostic tool to check if the DPF has reached it's end or if a DPF cleaner plus forced regeneration and a 30min 70mph drive will restore it (some of it). OBD2 is of no use in this case. Replace it with a petrol
