Steering lock and Barrel replacement

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Unfortunately I was faced with a problem where my key wouldn't turn in the ignition of my 07 vRS, thankfully it was only on my driveway.  After watching a few guides on the web, I managed to remove the Airbag, steering wheel, stalks and snap-bolts - allowing me to finally remove the affected components.  Once they were off and apart, it was clear they were worn, so both need replacing.

I have been in touch with Skoda (Swindon) who've been extremelly helpful.   Although the barrel can be made to the fit the existing key, they advised that the car would need brought in to code the ignition antenna with the car.  Now other than hiring a flatbed lorry, or leaving the old ignition antenna connected, I cannot see how I would get the car into the garage.

Is there anyone on here who can help with the coding of the ignition antenna, once it arrives?

Many thanks

The thing that reads the immobiliser chip in the key doesn't need coding - it's just a coil of wire...

If you're not changing the keys, cluster or engine ECU, there shouldn't be a need to recode anything for the immobiliser to work properly 😕

Thanks, now that sounds logical.  So if I'm understanding this correctly the immobiliser antenna on the barrel is dumb, and merely sends on the signal received from the key?

Exactly that.

The antenna is just a coil of wire tuned to the correct frequency for the immoboliser chips in the keys. It should connect to the instrument cluster which is where the immoboliser is.
