Start button popped inside housing

Featured Replies

Skoda Karoq Scout 4X4 TSI 150 DSG, bought new August 2019. Less than 2,000 miles. I went to start it today. Applied the usual pressure to the start button and - it popped inside the housing, out of reach. I can see that the housing can only be removed by removing the steering wheel, which I am most reluctant to do given that it has an airbag (and there may be other complications; I wouldn't know). I removed the top part of the housing easily enough with a trim tool but that does not allow access to inside the lower housing where the button is. I can sometimes operate the start button by poking a screwdriver in but worry that I could short-circuit something by doing so. I can’t fish the button back out with a wire hook because it needs to clip back into its hole and the wire stops that. Or maybe it’s meant to be fixed more firmly; I can’t tell.

Dealer/service agent closed for Covid-19. I have emailed them but don't hold out much hope.

Car essentially undriveable. Any suggestions? Can the steering wheel be removed safely? Thanks.

Thank you all, but is Skoda Assist not a paid-for breakdown service just like the AA (and currently provided by the AA), rather than something that comes free for a period with a new Skoda? I recall no mention of it when buying the car though the dealer was keen enough to sell me all sorts of other cover. Can't see anything in my documentation.  At the time I had AutoAid breakdown cover and now have StartRescue, so I don't want to pay for another breakdown service. Nor in this case do I see why I should have to! What I need is a repair under warranty.

You have 3 years breakdown cover with your Karoq at no extra cost up until 2022 with the AA on behalf of Skoda Assist and they are very good having used them on our KESSY Karoq last year.

Just a bit of feedback. Quick response from Skoda Assist; nice lady; but not much use as it has to go a dealer (though if I can't get it started for that purpose they will recover it to the dealers). The lady had no info on available dealers other than through Google, though I do know that my local one where I bought the car is completely closed for Covid-19. Some other North London dealers seem to be open for servicing so I guess I will try to phone around tomorrow.

More dealers should be opening from 1st June if the Cabinet give the green light later this week.

In normal times they would arrange for say Europcar or similar to drop off a free rental car at your home address but unfortunately such outlets are probably also closed due to the Pandemic.

Indeed. Anyway I'll survive.
