mk 2 octavia vrs tsi suspected injector fault?

Featured Replies

Hi after some advice have a 2011 octavia vrs 2.0 tsi which broke down yesterday. The car was driving fine then on an incline at around 50mph the car started to judder. The engine management light came on and i had reduced power. Each time i tried to accelerate the car juddered and there was white smoke from the exhaust. there was also the smell of unburnt fuel. I pulled over turned the car off i then tried to restart but it wouldn't. the AA recovered the car to my home address after been unable to fix it and i have since scanned it with vagcom.  It has codes for misfires on 3 cylinders, low fuel pressure, and o2 sensor after a bit of research i am suspecting an injector or multiple injectors have stuck in the open position. The only other thing that came to mind would be the coil packs but with no problems previously and a sudden failure was thinking more to do with the injector. Just wondering if any of you have seen this before or had similar codes and any ideas as to which it would most likely be. any help would be much appreciated.

Cylinder 2 logged the code first so I would check that cylinder.

the low fuel pressure is probably what caused the other cylinder codes.

Thanks for the response Vrsburnzy

Had the plugs out today which are a bit sooty could be from running rich. Looking into the cylinders number 2 was wet with fuel while the others where dry. This again would point to injector 2 stuck open. Also the oil has a strong smell of fuel. With the o2 sensor code would that have been fried due to unburnt fuel and need replacing. Or will that recover once the injector is replaced.

It does sound "like" injectors. A fault which are far from undocumented but not an everday occurrence on these boards.. If you are going to replace one, I'd consider replacing them all given the actual part price is not that high, but the time to get the IM off and replace is considerable!  Coil packs are a common failure especially after 9+ years. That said I still have my originals on a 2011 vRS at 65k miles.   You could replace those at will. Again, I'd replace the lot in one go.

Do you have any idea of the cost or even a part number for the injectors. From the sites I have looked on bosch ones seem to range between £50 -£150. There also seems to be several listed all saying they fit. Its quite confusing one guy who had similar symptoms. Even had a skoda dealer put a 1.8 injector in instead of a 2.0 one.  I have already started removing the inlet manifold only a couple of bolts left. I was going to see what part numbers are on the current one when I remove it. Although not sure if there is an updated version or not seen as they are 9+ years old

I would certainly check if the injector on cylinder 2 is stuck open or just replace it, whatever you feel is necessary.

Has the oil level risen at all? If the oil is saturated with petrol I’d consider giving it an oil change too, the o2 sensor I’d just leave to see if it sorts itself out first, it may have just gotten soaked in fuel and once dry it’ll function again, no point throwing money at it if it’s not needed.

  • 1 year later...

I have a 2010 Octavia 1600cc. Mine had the same problem 3 days ago. It has turned out to be an injector problem but the garage tell me they cannot find injectors for this model and there are hundreds on order from Skoda which may take a month to arrive.
