4th Year Annual Service

Featured Replies

My Superb L&K 150 DSG is going in for its 4th Annual Service with the Dealer and it has done about 37,000 miles.

I have it serviced once a year.

For those that reached this milestone before me, should  I expect any surprises.

Well, I will be following this thread!

@ukgnome

?

What price have you been quoted?

Are you asking for a DSG Oil Change to be done which is due at 40,000 miles or sooner?

Did you have the Brake Fluid changed at the last Service?

I was intending to go with the service pack, pay monthly.

I am intending to go for the DSG oil replacement and I dont know if the brake fluid was changed last time.

Oh, and it passed  its MOT with no problems at all

@ukgnome

Is there no Service History printed out or an invoice you paid for showing what has been done each year?

I take it with the service pack or plan you still pay £199 extra for the DSG and £60 for the brake fluid.

The paperwork is in the box Folder which isn't to hand.

I didn't pay anything extra last time so I guess no brake fluid change,

I will go and find the paperwork now

Paperwork found and was worth it.

The first Service Plan I took out seems to cover a Service at approx 40,000 miles in May 2020 - which is now, so maybe a 'free service'.

The document I got for the last service doesn't refer to any brake fluid change, so being non-mechanical, is this something that should be done ?

The Manufacturers Recommendation is Brake Fluid change first at 3 years then each 2 years.

At least that should be expected at what is now called 'Extended Scope' is the Brake Fluid tested for H20 content.

Service plans do not include brake fluid changes, or DSG or Haldex, so anyone buying a FMDSH car should remember Full Main Dealer Service History does not mean Serviced to Manufacturers recommendations or Schedule.

EDIT.  Sorry, i see they have changed 'Service Plans' and do bespoke ones.

thanks for that.

Interesting and I have a bit of paper that says this one is mostly free, other than fluid changes.

So, I have some time to look at the info you provided the link to.

Well, the car went in and I have the service report that tells me the rear tyres are getting old (how long do tyres last before the rubber perishes) and one has more wear than the other (strange that) and I should consider a new tyre but the tread is legal. Also rear brake disks are heavily scored and corroded (I think they were last year as well), does no one make these things to last anymore, I seem to remember my last car went about 7 years before the brake discs needed doing.

They didn't mention the rear windscreen wiper squeaking this year, which they did last year but I never renewed it.

I asked for the Brake Fluid renewal and the DSG liquid replacement, but this has to be done when the engine is cold, so it seems that means after a night in their workshop rather than leaving it to stand still for a couple of hours.

Which brings me to a side question.

How do you lift the front windscreen wipers away from the windscreen, as the bonnet seems to pin them down.

All hail YouTube, I found the answer on there, simple when you know how.

found the answer.

Wipers.  So you are not telling others.....

Service Position.

Switch off ignition and flick the wiper stalk and wipers park up the screen.  As you can do in winter.

As to cold engine to do the DSG Oil change.

Odd because other dealerships or DIY'ers like to suck out the hot  engine oil when servicing,

then remove the sump plug & replace with a new one,

and by the time the engine oil is done then the DSG and Haldex Service if there is Haldex can be done.

I thought it strange, but hey ho.

Not sure what time you dropped the car off but when I had Haldex on this car and DSG in my Mk II neither stayed in overnight.  I do tend to drop the car off around 0730 though so perhaps they do those bits in the afternoon.

As for tyres - 4 year old tyres aren't old (unless they put some on they'd had sitting around in the factory from the 90s..).  Tyres would normally go on condition if the vehicle is used - did they point out any cracks between the tread blocks or around the sidewall?

Unused (ie. not driven far) tyres will degrade quicker than used ones as using them keeps them flexible.  As an example, I have a caravan and 5 years is the recommended point to start inspecting tyres thoroughly as they spend most of their life stationary whilst under load. I had mine changed before 4 years as they showed signs of cracking around the sidewall.

To end this topic.

Car went in a 8:30am, got the finky tyre measuring video about 11am.

Got the prices for the fixes they were recomending (didnt go for any) and got a phone call 24 hours later saying the car would be ready to collect at 3pm)

Car collected, received all the paperwork and all has been well.

Cost for DSG Oil Change

Labour - 43.78

Screw - 2.93

Gear Oil - 6x 16.25 = 97.50

Seal Ring - 4.88

Cost for brake fluid change

Labour - 41.51

Fluid - 9.43

Total inc VAT = £242.06

Which seems fair to me.

I am going to question why the man that changes the brake fluid gets 83.02 and hour (took 30 mins) but the man that changed the DSG oil only gets paid 48.64 and hour (and took 56 minutes)

:D  Well spotted.  It'd be very interesting to know what BS they'd come up with, garage bills rarely make sense.

Unless my arithmetic is wrong  £149.09 + 50.94  = £200.03 + £40.01 ( VAT at 20%) making a grand total of £240.04.   Perhaps they gave the guy who changed the DSG oil a £2.02 tip given he's underpaid. :D

That beats the Skoda Fixed Price Menu pricing for Servicing & Maintenance at Participating Dealers.

That is £199 for the DSG Oil Change

& £60 for a brake fluid change done at the time of a service.
