Fabia 1.4 Service - Replace "?" also?

Featured Replies

Hi

My 1.4 mpi 8v 12.5K service is due soon and I guess they'll do whatever's standard at the Skoda garage. It's 4 years old now.

1. I seem to recall that something should be changed simply because of elapsed time rather than wear, but can't remember what it is :o and am wondering if I should be asking them to change "it"? :ne_nau:

2. I've read that head gaskets can "go" on this car. I think the car might be losing a spot of coolant and I know there can be other reasons (thanks Peeps), but re the gasket, is it something that's fine then goes suddenly or an upcoming problem that can be foreseen?

Many thanks

Mo

Edit re devonutopia's bootlifter - Is there any reason why a Skoda garage would not fit that for me at the same time, given it's not an engine-type mod and the car is out of warranty? Ta again.

It should all be in the service book (or on the printed sheet from the last service), but I'm pretty sure brake fluid needs renewing every 2 years so that should be due and possibly the coolant too.

Thanks Chris, though I'm thinking of a mechanical part rather than fluids that I read about - it might be the fan belt or something like that. The trouble is I can't do a search cos I don't know what I'm looking for, sob.

The fan belt does not need changed at your service , it is only checked every 40,000 miles according to the schedule , and the spark plugs are replaced at the same time , as is the air filter.

Ps I've not heard anything about head gasket failure on the 1400mpi , mine is over 6 years old and hasnt suffered one as of yet!

A 4th annual service (4 years) is regarded as the same as a 40k service and you should have the spark plugs, air filter and pollen filter changed aswell as the usual oil filter.

New recommendations from VAG

All engines,

cam belt should be replaced at 40,000 miles or 4 years whichever is soonest (originaly it was 6years and 60,000)

And that includes my Polo 1.4 tdi pd that is 4 years old at the end of May and has only 10,500 miles on the clock.

VAG dealer price could be around

Thanks, alankearn, as I'm sure that's what I was remembering - i.e. an expensive bit; the thread I recall showed disastrously more expensive consequences that can happen.

Thanks also to Lummox, as I didn't know about the 40K thing.

Looks like I'll be doing without champers and caviar for a while, but at least I'll be much happier knowing I'll be OK for a while, not wanting to change the car just yet.

:)

Mo.

You will have a job changing a cambelt on a 1.4 8v MPi.

You will have a job changing a cambelt on a 1.4 8v MPi.

That would be because there isnt one......:)

 I have to giggle cos that would definitely have caused a "Tsk! Women!" when I asked them to change it

It's cheered me up though - it deserves a bottle of champers after all, so I'll save you all a glass, even though I probably can't run to the caviar for a while yet.

Thank you :)

No problem. I'm always grateful for any information or comments as almost anyone on here is more knowledgeable than I am, LOL.

That said, it's a few months since I read about that, so it never hurts to give these things a "bump" as Briskoda has the odd new member (about a thou in the last few weeks!) for whom it will be new knowledge.
