For all of you that do self service, have any of you cut a hole in the under tray, so that you can change the oil without removing it, to remove the sump plug for oil changes.

The under tray removes easily so I wouldnt bother cutting any holes.

If I cannot find a rigid tube that will fit down the dipstick hole on the Yeti for my vacuum oil remover (the 5/16" copper one for the Octavia meets an obstruction) then I will be making a hole and a removable cover plate.

Still have to get to the oil filter on a lot of them.

 

On the mk2, where the filter was up top, I found the pella  pump got more oil out than the plug. Admittedly it Was because the pella allowed you to suck the oil out of the base of the filter housing, where quite a lot would hang around.

They don't offer one for the newer TSi with the plastic plug and sump.

Easy enough when the tray does not need removed to change the filter to remove it the first time you service, but suck out the oil at near operating temp.

Then remove the sump plug so you can see that the pump does the job right, fit a new plug, refit the tray, then at Oil and filter services from then on just suck out the oil.
