window regulator

Featured Replies

how much of a pig is it to do?

there was bit of grinding, bounce back and a high tension twanging when i was closing the window after doing my heko wind deflectors, had started making noise a couple of weeks ago though.

today it sounded catastrophic when i cracked it open for air suring parking up at work. and horrible when i closed it again. im not using it until fixed...

must check does it have seoarate fuse i can pull to avoid "accidents"..

The “re stringing” of the mech is just fiddly, I haven’t done a mk2 octavia but I have done other similar vag regulators. it can seem really tight at first but it should ease after a bit.

the winding of the cable onto the cog can also seem like rubbing your belly and patting your head so to speak 🤣 but just watch a video of someone on youtube and do as they do.

you'll need a heavy duty pop rivet gun for 6.4mm rivets and some replacement rivets for the regulator panel, I had to fix the terrible squealing window on ours and I assumed the rivets I had would be adequate but they aren’t.

a quick google will bring you up the dimensions of the rivets needed 👍

mmmm.... may leave it to my mechanic with the service its due then..

i dont have a regular pop rivetter, nevermind a H/D one.

Yea it’s not often I’m left unable to do a job, especially one as simple as fixing a squeaky window mech 🤣 we can’t drive the car now as the window mech panel is hanging off 🤣

the rivets turned up today but I’m still waiting on the gun 🤦🏻‍♂️

i wouldnt mind squeeking, its the grinding and  twanging that sounds like something has eaten itself and is about to drop a pane of glass into the door is what has has me worried... just how caught up is it on itself ...

I dunno, I got squeaking from the window and moaning from the misses 🤣

There is always the possibility it could break and release, unfortunately you can’t just prop it up with a bit of wood as you have to take the regulator panel off to gain access, but in most cases, regardless of how chewed up the wire is you should be able to just cut the mess out and replace the cable.

If the window is still moving albeit with a horrible noise then you should be ok as long as the next time it’s operated is to fix it, you may find only a few strands have broken but have got tangled up causing the racket.
