Clutch won’t come back up

Featured Replies

The clutch on Skoda octavia suddenly stopped working whilst we were out, then couldn’t get it in to gear, when you push it there’s no resistance and you have to pull it back up, does anyone know if this is a hydraulic hose problem ??

I'd suspect that it's clutch slave cylinder failure.  Unfortunately, the slave cylinder is inside the bellhousing so it's not a small job to replace it.

Thanks for your reply if it is the slave cylinder is it a clutch replacement ?

Not necessarily.  It would be possible just to fit a new slave cylinder.  However it would be worth checking on the condition of the clutch and flywheel at the same time.

How many miles are on the car?

Hi,

there’s around 120,000 miles so quite a lot really, just wondering how much it will cost if it’s just slave cylinder, and if not how much a clutch and flywheel will be, it’s an 07 so she’s getting on now but would like to get a couple more years out of the car ! Is this a repair that needs to go to the garage or will could it be done on drive by a mobile mechanic ???
thank you for your help on this

for a full clutch and DMF (assuming yours is a TDi) you're looking around £280 for a sachs kit + fitting (£400-600 rough estimate depending where you go)

slave cylinder release bearing (CSC) is roughly about £30 + fitting (not sure what cost that would be)

I thought the 1.9 diesel had an external slave cylinder - easily replaced, it's the 2.0 diesel with the 6 speed gearbox that is internal and requires a lot of work, as for petrol variants - I know nothing!

Of course it could be a master cylinder/hose problem also.

Hi Thanks for your reply, we had a rac man tow it to a local garage and he actually said he thought he could see the master or slave not sure which was external so we’ll see now what the garage comes up with.
