2020 Possible UK petrol and diesel car scrappage scheme.

Featured Replies

Maybe tomorrow we will hear something on one.

That would be the Prime Minster not getting how many are worried about their job losses or family members, but trying to save others jobs and getting more signing up for finance..

No point feeding he story to journalists to get it in the media and then waiting a month to then announce it.

Hope it is true.

What to   buy though ?

  1.  64 kWh LEAF
  2. 52 kWh Zoe
  3. e-corsa
  4. Model 3 std +    ?????

Need to science the **** out of it.

Will all EVs get the full 6k or only up to the VAT amount I suspect so UK does not actually lose revenue but therefore PCPs might be awesome.

Great for those driving around in cars close to failing their MOT, not so useful for those who might have more value in their vehicles.

If it's anything like the last scrappage scheme it is only eligible for vehicles aged 10 years or over.

Given the fact that the difference between then and now is that most people who used to drive around in older cars and were able to benefit have already chopped them in against a leased car for circa £100 to £200 per month.

A price for most budgets...

Drive around any housing estate in all but the most deprived areas and on every driveway you'll see shiny new cars on PCH.

I'm not entirely convinced a scrappage scheme is going to be as effective this time around.

I'd be taking advantage of any scrappage scheme to replace my second car - a 12 year old Citroen C1 with an MOT valid until March 2021, currently valued at not a lot!

and thats perfectly reasonable...

but, i remember the last scheme here... it killed so many perfectly good cars and so many future potential classics were destroyed too because owners didnt know any better and saw getting cash off a new diesel (that most didnt need only saw cheaper tax) rather than keeping their perfectly good other than minor issues older petrol car going... literally some were scrapped purely because of the road tax cost...

The original scheme started in 2009 and then was extended a while in 2010.

Not that facts matter to Autocar.

Loads of Defeat Device fitted Diesels and others that had DPF issues were purchased thanks to the Scrappage Scheme, if Politicians or Journalists bothered to be interested.

Some of those new cars from 2009 already scrapped.  eg Kia Rio diesels

Got my 03 plate 1.6 16v scenic to do the same.  Good car for the runs to the tip. Hope it happens and one can match scrappage with improved EV grant, happy days.
