12 speaker Sound System

Featured Replies

Hi All

a quick question.

I have the 12 Speaker ‘sound system’ in My ‘09 Yeti. The sound is absolutely awful.
I changed the front woofers to see it they were shot, but that didn’t change anything.

I checked the amp under the seat. It is a Blaupunkt 3TO 035 456 10channel with Audi and VW logos

does this sound right? I’m thinking that maybe it has been changed for the wrong one in the past.

does anyone think that the amp would be the issue with the terrible sound?

cheers

Hi again

further to the previous post, I have been offered a replacement amplifier matching the one in the car.

does anyone think it’s worth changing ?

do You think that the amp is

A. The correct part

B. Going to sort out the terrible sound quality?

cheers

Dunk

Part number matches the one shown for a Yeti here: https://7zap.com/en/catalog/cars/Skoda/brand/17/0/Yeti/Yeti (2010 - 2013)/Skoda/TElFNUhjdjdrTEd5ZXB3Nmd6TGdNQT09--/6bbffde8b5b8077d2d0a5796da6eea3c:ab9918e2c58bbe639b59193ee731c508/manufacturer/0/666035450::35045

There are a few cars that use the same amp and headunit so it's possible either have been replaced or recoded in the past. If they aren't correctly coded/parameterised for a Yeti then it can sound wrong.

Maybe worth trying to find another Yeti with the same sound system to compare to?

Hi Langers

Thanks for the reply. Always rely on You for good advice.

I hadn’t considered the coding aspect, I’m glad You replied before I just bought one.

My assumption is that an amp usually works or doesn’t work, so the coding aspect makes sense. Unless the head unit has enough power to send sound to the speakers. Judging by the size of the wires that leave the head unit I assume that they are just sending a  signal To the amp

Yup, the headunit should just be using the normal 4 pairs of wires to send 4 line level signals to the amp. The amp will then split this signal up and amplify it for each speaker. Either can mess with the EQ or levels to mess the sound up...

Definitely worth getting an autoscan to compare with other cars/check for obvious error codes :)

You might want to describe in what way the sound is bad as that might help others either suggest solutions or see what you've done if they need to fix their cars.

Sound quality (or lack of quality) is basically. Loads of distortion from the woofers and shrill/tinnyness from the tweeters. So much so that I had to disconnect the tweeters just to be able to listen to anything.

The standard 8 speaker speaker system in mine is excellent.
