Rev and Speedo Cluster

Featured Replies

I have 1999 Octavia 1.9 Tdi estate. Problem is speed cluster does not work, only occasionally comes on and then promptly stops working again. I have been told you can't replace as each one has a code. Is this true, as not worth sending off to be repaired as it is about £250. Any help gratefully received.

morning,

pretty sure you can replace it, you need to vcds to code it to your vehicle.

(theres a couple of old threads on it, hasnt come up in a while.)

normally though a repair is just reflowing the solder joints as they dry out, become brittle and crack over time. £250 seems a bit steep for that. the repair threads have more detail on that too.

If i buy a second hand speed cluster, in simple English what has to be done to VCDS to make it work. Close to me is a VW garage, would he know and have whats needed. Unfortunately although brilliant car, its not worth spending too much on it.

Thanks Philip

i honestly dont know,

but @Tech1e is very good with the diagnostic stuff so may be able to help
