Smart Link Radio Retrofit

Featured Replies

Hello All,

First message in the forum! I am looking to change the Swing radio of my Fabia Combi NJ, I used the search forum and found there some ways to do it, but still not clear for me all the steps more or less. I see that many people recommend to upgrade to the Amundsen, but I really do not need the GPS and so on, with the smartlink with Android Auto I will be more than Happy.

- I have the swing radio, so no unit on the  Glovebox. Is there any other unit with smartlink available that do not need the unit in the glove box?

- If I buy the unit from Ebay or similar, does the dealer unlock it just paying the fee? is there any problem with this?

- My Fabia is from April 2015,  so the 2014/10 series, any foreseen problems when doing Radio retrofit?

I saw the post of updates and his change of Bolero Admunsen from @pab567, quite interesting but also not exact what I want (I do not need the Admunsen)

How do you see it, any ideas or recomendations?

There are some units (SWING PLUS) that were installed in Fabia from MY19 that are capacble of SmartLink. The issue is that SmartLink is a feature that is activated with FEC/SWaP code which is assigned to car's VIN. Your car does not have license for it and I am afraid after retrofitting SKODA dealer will not be able to have it activated - servers will lot allow him to do it. At least so far I have never heard about anyone who managed it - maybe nobody has even tried so you have the chance to be the first one.

The proven is to replace Swing with hacked Bolero or Amundsen. Most people take Amundsen as there is almost no price difference.

Wow Pab 567, thanks for the feedback, then I guess the only way is as you mention, change the swing to a Bolero or Amundsen.  First of all I will need to find a Swin plus, which I cannot find one, but I see a lot of Bolero on the internet

As I have a Swing unit, I will need the Display and the glovebox unit, I read that you recomend the 5Q0035874A  Amundsen for the glove unit, but for the touch screen? maybe there is a combination that works?

I will look again for a post of a guy that changed from the Swing to Bolero/Amundsen to see how he fitted the second unit. I will come back again now that I see this is the best way to go.

Thanks @pab567

Your SWING must be dismantled. You will need:

- screen 6V0919604 (there might be a letter at the end too, some are with and some without NAV button but it does not matter - if you have Amundsen and screen without NAV button then you enter navigation from screen touch menu)

- infotainment unit (I recommend Amundsen with DAB/DAB+ model number 5Q0035874C)

- set of cables to install new unit in glovebox

- new USB port 5Q0035726E or 5Q0045726J (both also support Apple CarPlay)

- internal GPS antenna

- SD card with maps

- microphone (if you don't have it now)

Approximate budget required is 500-550 GBP.

Contact me on PM if you are interested.

Well I am back looking to make this Retrofit. Pab I tried to send you a private mesage but I think it did not reach you (probably Msgbox full).

Well guys now I am looking to purchase the parts, the most complex thing I guess is the set of cables  to go from 1 unit to screen + brain unit. I identified that I need:

- Screen video cable (blue connector on screen and pink one on the unit)

- Power for the screen (blakc connecto on top of the screen.

This last one I thing is the trickiest, I found some extension cables designed for a Golf Mk7 in Aliexpress that are maybe not needed as in the fabia the brain unit will be almost behind the screen.

I will inform once I move forward with this.

Regards
