ABS central unit changed, how to fix fault codes?

Featured Replies

I had to change ABS central unit an several errors now disturbing, ABS is not working. Can anybody tell me is it possible to fix these with VCDS. If yes, what to do exactly? Enclosed VCDS log data. Thanks in advance.

You need to code the new ABS module.

Have you got an autoscan with the old ABS module still fitted?

I don't have an autoscan but a local auto mechanical has a one. And I have the old ABS module. My sister's husband has a cable and VCDS program. Could he fix the problem?  I suppose that he can't scan the old ABS module as it not installed.

If you can get the autoscan with the old ABS code in, that'll make this much easier ;)

It is possible to create the code from scratch but it's preferred to use the original code if possible.

Thanks! I will contact the local auto mechanical. He said that that he can download data from the old ABS unit and then update the new ABS.  He said, that perhaps there is "easier" way too. So the easies way is to scan old ABS box and  then upload the new one

Yup, the easiest and best solution is to copy the code from the old unit for the new one :)

If it doesn't work, post the original autoscan and we can go from there.

It's accepted the code so it's probably correct.

Is this a used unit as at least looking online, "16352 - Control Module - Electrical Error 014 - Defective" is normally linked to a failed or failing ABS module.

No harm in checking and load testing the power and ground connections for the ABS module.

What the mechanical did: disconnected the plug from new module that is nowinstalled and connected the old module to the plug. Then he scanned the old module. The plug was then connected to the new (used but tested with warranty) module and ABS coding  from old module was copied to the new one. No help at all. What to do next?

I think you need to be more clear what state the car was in for the scans you've provided.

error codes 1.docx - looks like the car with the new ABS but not coded

error codes 2.docx - just the ECU? Ignoring

abs-coding.txt - lcode for the ABS module

What is Log-XUN-397-TMBGE61Z782196745-320680km-199261mi.txt? Does it have the old or new ABS module fitted?

Did the new ABS module accept the lcode from the old ABS module? If so, can you post a scan showing what error codes are present?

error codes 1 - longer file

error codes 2 - shorter file

The shorter file (error codes 2) is the engine fault codes that were reset before all other fault codes were read (error codes 1, longer file). Both files loaded on Sat 20.6.2020.

Files below loaded on Tue 23.6.2020

abs coding.txt - code from the old unit

XUN-397-TMBGE61Z782196745-320680km-199261mi.txt - new abs module fitted

The new ABS module accepted the Icode from the old ABS module.

Present error codes are in the XUN-397-TMBGE61Z782196745-320680km-199261mi.txt -file

Excellent, thanks for clearing things up.

In XUN-397-TMBGE61Z782196745-320680km-199261mi.txt there is the error "16352 - Control Module - Electrical Error 014 - Defective". You need to find out why and fix it.

You should rule out the wiring by checking the (two?) power feeds and the ground to the ABS module connector are working. It's also worth doing a load test to make sure they can carry current as well as voltage. Damaged or failing wiring can cause this error code. If the wiring is good, the ABS module might be faulty.

Once you can clear that error, you might need to zero code the module and recode using the lcode you already have. Finally, you should probably do the basic settings for G85, G200, G201 as mentioned here: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Brake_Electronics_(MK60EC1)

The module should be ok. I bought it from e-bay, seller was "abs specialist":

We offer remanufactured and used ABS units for various makes and models at competitive prices. All ABS units units come with a warranty. located in Ireland, Worldwide shipping available. Free technical assistance with every purchase.

SEAT LEON ABS PUMP 1K0614517BD 1K0907379AD **90 DAY WARRANTY** TESTED100%

Should I contact them for free technical assistance?

Sure, feel free to see what they say...

I'd still suggest checking the wiring as they'll probably claim the ABS unit is checked and fine.

I got a prompt answer:

--------

Hello,

Apologies, Unfortunately it does look like there may be a problem with this module.

We can send you a replacement module for this today.

When you have this fitted, please allow remote access via teamviwer and have the VAGCOM (VCDS) connected and we will code and calibrate this for you free of charge online.

Please keep the faulty abs module as we will organise a collection of this once the replacement has been fitted.

--------

Good to have a new module. Shame that have paid for uninstallation and installation of the module and for the work with VCDS too. Looking for refund.

Finally I got a replacement module and installed it. This one works fine. The car was inspected yesterday so license to drive one more year.  The case is closed.
