Fail to start

Featured Replies

Hi
does anyone know why the car fails to start sometimes it’s a  press button start And parking maneuver disabled comes up on dash And a load of other Warning  lights

it starts after 5.min of trying
it’s a 181 octavia vrs

thanks

check your battery

Battery is always a good starting place.  The CANBUS system gets REALLY upset if the battery voltage is too low and creates a whole load of spurious errors.

Assuming that the car is a TSI (petrol) and not a 187 TDI (diesel).  Can you tell us what year your car was made/registered?

Thanks

Hi max my car is diesel 181 vrs

happened again this morning warning lights all started flashing and car wouldn’t start

it started after a few goes just annoying

thanks all

You need to scan it with vcds or obdeleven to see what each control unit is doing and if it raises any fault codes. Also get a multimeter on the battery to check the voltage.

I'm sorry, but that isn't giving people the best chance of helping.

  • does the engine crank at a normal speed?
  • does the engine crank slowly?
  • does the  engine not crank at all?

those are likely to be three different faults, It is still worth checking the battery voltage, as that's probably involved, but whether via a discharged battery or a bad connection is quite unclear (and it might not be a connection directly on the battery, but in say a fuse box or at a controller module).

Do you, by the way, have 'lockdown' and a consequent low level of car usage, currently?
