ASTA Tools

Featured Replies

Anyone had much experience with ASTA tools?

I recently bought a 14mm XL ratcheting ring spanner to help with taking the caliper carrier bolts of the back of our Yeti 4x4 but didn't use it as it hadn't arrived and I found my 600mm U/J breaker bar did the job with a little care.

The 12 point "socket" on the ratchet end looks like plastic to me.  The published spec exceeds the 90Nm torque for the caliper carrier bolts but I'm slightly dubious?

After breaking my venerable (35+ years old) Kamasa 1/2" UJ) on the same job I've bought an ASTA one. It certainly seems meaty enough but the finish is a little rough.

I know this stuff is never going to be Snap-On but its not Pound Shop prices either!

Any thoughts?

I'd have said those look ok-ish. The black socket looks as if it is heavy black anodised, and while it looks as if the surface may be scratchable, I wouldn't really have concerns beyond that. The bar itself is fairly long, and it looks as if you could get a fairly high amount of twist action by leaning on that - at that point, something will give and you've got to hope that it will be the right thing. Using it on a rusted solid nut may be a bit fraught. if the nut won't accept the inevitable. In that circumstance, the flats on the nut may be the first to go.
