Beeping when towing caravan

Featured Replies

Hi all. Just looking some advice. Had the karoq for about 5 months now. Got a towbar fitted by the dealer but not by them. By an official tow bar Installer. I'm sure it's not been coded by the towbar installers. It's beeping when I hitch up the caravan and drive. Any settings I can turn off to stop the beeping whilst towing without having to get it coded. Thanks

If you ordered the towbar fitting with the dealer, even though they’ve sub contracted the job to a towbar fitter, they are the ones that need to put it right if it’s not working correctly.
Take it back to the dealer and tell them you want it working correctly.

Cheers Kenny. Any sensor i can turn off in settings, in the meantime, till I get a chance to get to the dealer? I think about proximity sensors etc.

Just press the 'P' button in the row below the heater controls...........

LOL! Need to get that caravan moved before the kids kill me.

There are a lot of different beeps that the car can make, are you able to tell us what the beep is similar to, for example the parking sensors, handbrake-on warning, low temperature warning, engine fault, low fuel warning, fasten seat belt warning, blind spot assist telling you your about to pull into an occupied space etc. These are all mostly different tones or the same tones at different intervals and volumes and so can often be easily recognisable / distinguishable from one other.

With the caravan hitched-up when is the car beeping? All the time, randomly, when indicating, braking, accelerating, cornering etc?

Is the beep a continuous tone, short beeps, long beeps, how long in between each beep?

What brand of aftermarket tow bar have you had fitted? How was was the wiring integrated. Did they use a proper CANBUS control box or did they simply splice into the wiring loom for the rear lights? How much did it cost, this is usually a good guide for if it was fitted, and importantly coded correctly.

When you indicate do you get the secondary green arrow on the dashboard to confirm that the trailer indicators are working? Do the rear parking sensors and rear fog light automatically disable when the electrical plug is connected as well as you seeing a picture of a caravan on the central infotainment screen? Does the alarm activate if you unplug the electrical socket when the car is locked? Do you get an additional option in the sat nav settings to avoid narrow roads and low bridges?

An idea might be to get a passenger to film the fault, this will make it easier to show the dealer the fault and prevent them from reporting 'no fault found' and sending you on your way.
