Spare wheel for 2012 Scout

Featured Replies

Hi all

im after a spare wheel for my wife’s Scout 2012, she currently has the goop and pump option and I hate this.

any suggestions what would fit and where I could get it from? After the tools as well pls.

cheers

Steve

Mine has a full size steel wheel in the boot under the floor. I guess the 4x4 models may not have that as the differential is there. Have you lifted up the boot floor to see what's there?

you should be able to get a full size spare in the boot (we have in our 4x4 but it has 16" wheels).  However, I'm not sure whether it would need to be a different rim size and profile to the 17's that will be on the car.

PS - Just checked the brochure for the cty II FL and it does say a full size or space saver spare wheel was an option - so that does suggest a full size 17" wheel and tyre to match the other 4 should fit.  The full size wheels were supposedly 7Jx17" 225/50 R17 94W

Take a look at the inside of your fuel filler flap. There should be tyre pressures listed for the various tyre sizes that were fitted to the Octavia Scout from the factory.

According to wheel-size.com the standard tyre size was 225/50R17 fitted to a 7Jx17 ET50 rim. This has a bigger outside diameter than the non-Scout versions.

It looks like the diameter of the front brake discs are 280mm/288mm which means that 15" rims would fit. Maybe you could see if a standard Octavia MK2 wheel kit would fit. 195/65R15 would get you home, but 205/70R15 would better match the outside diameter of 225/50R17 tyres. Another option is 16" rims with possibly 205/55R16 tyres but this like the 195/65R15 is a tyre size from a standard Octavia not the Octavia Scout.

The T-speed rated tyre means you are limited to 190km/h (118mph) but as a winter rated all-season tyre, (ie. 3PMSF symbol) is allowable. Don't exceed 118mph with T-speed rated tyres, and don't exceed 50mph (80km/h) when using different sized tyres on the same axle.

Thank all, it’s a full size space in the boot, so will probably go for a 16” to make sure it’ll fit!

Skoda online parts catalogue shows 6.5Jx16 ET50 as one of the standard sizes

Can confirm a standard spare on a Scout is a 16". It's the same size as the normal Octavia wheels, think 205/55 from memory.

I have not tried to get the full size 225/50r17 alloy into the wheel well, but personally I do not think it will fit, especially diameter wise front to back.

If a cars standard wheel does not fit in the spare wheel well with the tyre inflated or partially inflated then the car is not fit for purpose.

If you are travelling with a full car and boot and get a puncture and unload your boot, get the spare out and fit it, you want to put the punctured tyre / wheel someplace and that someplace is in the spare tyre well.  So best check as usually the cars standard wheel / tyre will go in the spare tyre well.

Just to add to this, I got a 16” spare with tools from the dealer at a good price. Fits perfectly, you won’t get away with a 17” as it won’t fit the space.

The Octavia MK2 Scout comes with 225/50R17 tyres as standard. This means that the outside diameter of the tyre is about 1" bigger than non-Scout tyres which use tyre sizes such as 195/65R15, 205/55R16, 225/45R17.

It's looks like the spare 16" wheel uses a 205/55R16 tyre, ie. a non-Scout size. This means that should you fit your spare, you will be driving around with one tyre about 1" smaller in outside diameter than the other tyres on the car. Probably best not to exceed 50mph when the spare is on.

Do the full-size 225/50R17 wheels fit in the spare wheel space as they have an outside diameter of about 1" bigger than the spare tyre?

I would say no, there is no space around the 16” spare to give an extra 1” so the 17” wouldn’t fit in my opinion.

The 16” spare is a “get me to somewhere that I can sort the original tyre out” it does state 50mph on the wheel itself.

The tyre on the 16" spare wheel has a higher profile than those on the 17" wheels. This makes it the same overall size and is quite safe. This is what is supplied by Skoda. Like all unmatched wheels on the same axle it is always advisable to drive at the maximum 50 mph

Outside diameter of 205/55R16 tyre is 631.9mm

Outside diameter of 225/50R17 tyre is 656.8mm

This means that the outside diameter of a 225/50R17 tyre is 24.9mm bigger (or in percentage terms 3.9% bigger) than a 205/55R16 tyre.

Here's the maths:

(16x25.4)+(205x1.1)=631.9

(17x25.4)+(225x1)=656.8

656.8-631.9=24.9

656.8/631.9=1.039

  • 4 weeks later...

The spare in a scout is 205/55R16

The 225/50R17 normal wheel does NOT fit in the well.

It does when you have a puncture :D

Which is actually very important if you are fully loaded when you have to change the wheel and continue on a journey.
