2016 superb 2.0 tdi fan issue

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I'm New to the forum and I'm driving a 2016 skoda superb 2.0 tdi estate with 90k on the clock. I've recently bought the car from a used car dealer and I've recently had an issue and I was wondering if anyone has had similar?

The fan on the car runs at random times, this Tuesday it ran so much that it killed my battery to the point where the doors wouldn't open with the fob.

I dont believe its a regeneration issue as it doesn't happen right after the ignition is turned off. Some times it can be an hour or so later. Some times it doesn't happen at all, I noticed that it will stop when I open a door on the car. The car has a few months warranty and I've brought this issue to the dealer in writing who believes its dpf regeneration, which I dont. Any car I had before the regen fan noise happened as soon as the car was turned off.

Any one had this happen to them?

** fan runs at random times when off and locked etc

I presume you mean the engine cooling fan,  it runs after the ignition is turned off if the engine is hot.  Mine does (did) when I parked at work at the top of a hill.

Check the sensors that control the fan, don't ask me where they are - mine was leased.

DPF regen, my 2016 2.0TDi used to run the fan like that. Battery could be on the way out.

if after turning off the car the fan is still working, then probably dpf regenerated.
The easiest way is to use the android + vagdpf application .. regeneration is almost always systematic. I always have mine every 200 miles. I use this application and I see when I have 95% I am going to drive on the highway to regenerate it. It is simple. the filter has its capacity on the soot. at 25grams in the filter starts regeneration. always after it is about 5-6 grams.

yes,  MIne does this .. its a 2017 reg.

It can be sat on the drive, cool, not having been driven for 3/4 hours then up pops the radiator cooling fan on for no apparent reason.  During a recent breakdown (unrelaated to this) the knowledgable driver driving the tow truck said that it was a known faulty relay.

No idea where it may be or what but it sounds to me like it could be a faulty temperature sensor OR a fault with the control software.

Good luck.

I got talking to a vw guy this weekend and he said similar. Either a aircon sensor or the control unit on the fans itself. The car dealer is taking it on Tuesday to get it sorted. Soon as I find out what exactly what it is I'll post it up. Thanks for the reply

Nice, think I'm seeing the same.
