Oil leak

Featured Replies

hi so i have a oil leak down back of my engine i have replace the valve cover gasket, sealed and torqued to spec. So im lead to belive the inlet or exaust manifold gaskets wich one is more likely to leak oil? Or shall i replace both thanks

Er - which engine does it have? and If it is the 1.4 is it the old pushrod version or the 16v?

Inlet and exhaust gaskets won't leak oil. Sump gasket, oil seal, oil breather, head gasket etc can leak oil. You need to get under the car and try to see where it is coming from.  The 1.416v petrol is well known for leaking where the oil breather fastens to the engine.

1.9tdi asz engine, ive been under the car and i can see its slowly running down from one of the gaskets just dont know witch one

wash the area with degreaser, dry it then look for where the fresh oil comes from, hopefully easy enough

I have the same issue myself on my 1.9 ASZ engine, just noticed it while I had the front end off replacing the radiator yesterday. Hopefully I get some free time during the week when off work to clean down the back of the engine properly as I literally gave it a quick once over with some break cleaner and a rag, see if I can find the leak once I properly degrease the area.

Adding the ele mod on mine this week also as the EGR has been seeping and noticed the boost pipes/Intercooler was nicely gathering the oil/vapours etc. Surprising how much mess alone the oil vapour from the engine breather and soot from the EGR causes, cleaned the EGR like new and took the intercooler off drained the oil and gave it a clean over while sorting the radiator.
