Fabia on PCP - Service at dealers?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before, I've searched but couldn't find the definite answer. My Fabia was due it's 1st service during the Covid lockdown, so now things are sort of back to normal(ish) does anybody know if I must get my car serviced at a Skoda dealer/place with the electronic log book thing when my car is purchased via Skoda/VW PCP? I've tried looking for my PCP finance stuff for the T&C's but my wife has put them somewhere, but can't remember where. I've got a very good independent mechanic I trust, but he doesn't have the electronic log book thing, so will a paper receipt/log of the work done satisfy Skoda when I trade the car in, probably with Skoda again?

Many thanks:)

I don't recall being bound to having services carried out at Skoda but you have to evidence that VAG Group recommended parts and consumables are used to keep your warranty.

It's far more simple in that case to just get it done by Skoda, pay the extra couple of quid and make it easier for yourself when your PCP comes to a head.

Read the T&C's on your agreement.

If there are restrictive practices and a restricted market condition like 'Main Dealer / Approved Repairers servicing only' in the T&C's then so be it.

There are Independents that have all the gear (Licensed equipment, and that get Recall / Service Campaign and TPI's, can do warranty work with approval  and that can put the service info on the system.

Thanks, as mentioned in my original post, we can't find our T&C agreement. I think I will just get it done at an approved place, i just had bad experience with the 2 dealerships that are local to me, so they have lost my trust completely.

Thanks again.

Easy enough to just ask for another copy of the agreement.

Best that you have it.

As a matter of interest, can Skoda's be serviced at any VAG dealer and still be on the system so to speak?

My wife's Citigo is needing a second service and the Skoda dealer wants too much money. There's a Seat dealer next door which may do it cheaper.

Just wondered.

Shouldn't be a problem if the SEAT Dealer is prepared to do the work or are worried about VW HQ at Milton Keynes finding out and taking the franchise away from them. Once got our 1 year old KIA Picanto serviced at a SAAB dealer because they quoted £125 for the first service using KIA Parts whereas the supplying dealer wanted over £190. When the KIA garage moved and I visited to see about the cost of a second service I was chatting to the new Dealer Principal and explained why I had gone elsewhere and his response was to send me a letter offering the 2nd and 3rd services for free as an apology for losing our custom which I accepted which resulted in 3 years of very cheap motoring.👍

spelling mistake

A VW Dealerships service desk employee once refused to book a Skoda in for a Service as they said they were not allowed to.

I asked them if they wanted to go and check with the dealer principal if this restrictive practice was legal and something their motor group came up with or was it a VW thing.

The dealer principal came across and apologised and said that they were more than happy to service vehicles from the VW Group but they might have some restrictions as to access to Skoda TPI's etc and software enhansements.

I told him that i doubted that very much and as the car coming in was remapped they were going to be asked not to do and diagnostics or warranty or service campaign work,

just do the Service they were advertising at £50 less than the Skoda Dealership 3 miles away.

They did, and the person on the service desk on the day it went in recognised what that car was and that the mechanicals were the same as a Polo, and that they never only came in Diesels and manuals, which was a change from the Skoda receptionist the service before who argued it could not be a petrol DSG (automatic), she had one and they only came as diesels..

What has been mentioned about the price difference is the main reason for raising this query. The Skoda dealers want £169, whereas elsewhere I have been quoted a lot lot cheaper, for what basically is an oil change😠

I'd be a bit wary about getting a first service outside that car's marque's service circle if it was my car, if it was owned by a 3rd party, I'd be more wary about that as they might just consider that you are defaulting on your agreement concerning looking after their property while you use it.

Ie for me, more trouble or potential risk than the money saving is worth.

The dealership employee or the website is quoting you £169 is going by the price of 'Interim services' that were the Fixed Price ones at participating dealers.

Old websites and prices that changed at the start of 2020 had £169 & £289 services.   Minor / Interim & Major Services.   'Oil & Filter services for a while were £99.

£184 now for an 'Oil & Inspection Service' which is what the Warranty Requires but then that can be at 24 months / 18,000 miles-20,000 miles as the car left the factory with Long Life Oil and set for Variable Servicing.

You pay for the parts required, like the Pollen Filter if being changed.

What is yours on Variable or was it reset to Fixed Servicing @ 9,400 miles / 372 days?

The Extended Scope is now recommended at 3 years, so that extra £59.  Then the £60 Brake Fluid Change if you want.

To be honest i don't know if it is on a fixed or variable service, it was not something i was made aware of during the handover. I might just have to call the dealership i got it from, even though i had bad service from them in the past (long story)

Of course they do not have to charge what Skoda says, it's up to them and the Skoda prices are the maximum they can charge. Bit like MOT's which are supposed to be £56 officially but nobody pays that unless they are not with it. I did pay the dealers for my first two services to maintain the warranty even though it is illegal for any manufacturer to insist on servicing by the dealers. I now use a highly reliable mobile mech - £65 for this year's oil change and inspection - why pay more! Oh and £45 for a regas can't be bad eh?

The Skoda UK Fixed Price service and maintenance is not the Maximum they can charge.

If not a Participating dealership they can charge less or charge more and some do.

You can find our the service interval if you call Škoda customer service and give them your VIN number.

The Service Intervals are 9,400 miles on Fixed Servicing in the UK and Variable / Flexible is 24 months, 18,000-20,000 miles.

They arrive from the factory on Variable and might get changed to fixed.

You can see how long to a service by pressing the appropriate buttons in the car.

Any info there or from Skoda Customer Services or Dealerships is reliant on a Tech / Fitter resetting correctly at the last Service or PDI.

So we know the story there.  'Simply Clever' many are not.
