Oil questions.

Featured Replies

For a Karoq 2.0 4x4 TDi, what is the correct oil spec?  I generally check the oil every 500 - 600 miles and was going to have a bottle in the boot just in case.

I know it’s VW 504/504 from the sticker but which viscosity?  One of the online genuine parts sites has 2 different viscosity, 0W 20 and 0W 30, which do I need for a UK car, if that makes a difference?

Also do these blocks absorb oil when new?

Many thanks

What age is your Karoq?

Thee correct spec is VW504/507.   So 5w 30 FS III.

 The VW507 being important.

You can get VW507 in 0w 30 FS III

Since before the WLTP so 2018 from the factory they leave with VW508/509  so 0w20 FS IV.

Do not mix them topping up, if the factory oil is still in then top up with VW509   0w 20 FS IV.

I do not think you will find VW509 oil that is 0w 30 FS IV

The engine blocks / liners do not absorb oil.

The owners manual tells you the advice on Driving in / Running in vehicles / engines and oil use in the first 5,000 km.

But then they have said the same for decades for all engines,  So a cover themselves bit of advice.

Sorry, didn’t think to give age but can see how it’s important.  It was registered end of last year, and was built mid July 19.  Deffo 504/507 according to the sticker on the crash panel.

Good to hear the blocks don’t soak up oil.   Will get shopping for a litre of 0w 30 FS III.  Many thanks.👍

Thanks.

That really surprises me with a WLTP Approved TDI as i only know of them all leaving the factory with VW508/509 incase they are retested when imported to the UK or any other country with the WLTP.

There have been members in the recent past that asked Dealership employees what oil would be used at a service and they were told 0w 30.

Might well be better than the potentially crap 0w 20 FS IV.  There for VW's sake and not the owners of cars that will be keepers.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just had my 1st service (only 4500 miles on the clock) and they confirmed that it was filled up with VW504.  At the service I did also get them to switch over from Variable service reginme to fixed time and distance so I don't know if that would have made them use one particular oil or 'tother.  The invoice also states 5W30 4.7 litres.

Cheers,

Paul

Be it fixed servicing or flexible they will use 'Long life oil'.

So VW 504/507       The 504 bit is TSI's,   TDI's 507.

Same if they go VW 508/509       508 for TSI's   509 for TDI's.
