Black pack styling

Recommended Posts

I have a white kodiaq Scout (190) and I'm thinking of adding black pack styling to it. De chromed to black, wheels, badges, lip at front and back and maybe the roof as well.

I know the sportsline comes with some of that but I've not seen an example Scouts with anything similar. Has anyone come across one, or had it done themselves?

I have an Edition with chrome grill surround, window trim and roof rails.

I changed the grill surround for a black one myself, but wasn’t able to save the old chrome one from breaking. I think you would have to remove the bumper if you wanted to preserve the old grill surround, I wasn’t bothered and broke it on removal from the front.

I’ll have the window trims wrapped in black eventually but the roof rails I’m not sure about yet. You could swap them for black ones, but would have to remove the roof lining to do so. 🤪 Not something I could be bothered with and the rails are brushed aluminium rather than chrome, so I don’t mind them so much.😆

I'm pretty sure i'm going to get most of the chrome wrapped, in case i ever sell it the next owner can make their own decision on chrome vs black. I've found some examples online of ones close to what i'm looking for, If/when i get it done i'll put some pics on so everyone can make their minds on whether it was a good decision or not 😁

Just had a flat bottom alcantara  with paddles steering wheel fitted.

Much nicer than the original. 🤗

Looks good. Where did you source it, and did it need a different airbag?

I bought it from https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/collections/skoda-interior-exterior-trim/products/skoda-three-spoke-sports-steering-wheel-alcantara

about 3 weeks ago when it was on offer for £185 , unfortunately it’s gone back up in price now. It uses the original airbag. 😊

Brill, thank you. Still not a bad price. I have the same spec and model year car as you, and I'm also thinking about some of the same mods - I've ordered the black grill surround, and planning to wrap the window trim. I'd love to see pics from you or @Shevtheblue if you do any more de-chroming! 🙂

I've had a couple quotes, just another pending. Here's what I have on the list at the moment:

Wrap roof/roof rails
Full dechrome
New badges (black tinted clear) including scout badges on sides
Alloys, hubs and callipers gloss Black
Rear diffuser and front spoiler gloss black
Mirrors gloss black
Tinted rear windows

A guy at work did this on his Seat Leon i think, he has the FR so it made sense. I'm not sure how much i would use the paddles tbh, it's hardly got hurtling speed :D I do prefer the flat bottom steering wheel though and my seats are also Alacantra so that would fit in nicely. Did you fit it in yourself? IIRC my mate did it himself on the Seat.

I did consider swapping it myself, but read conflicting advice on whether coding would be required and I don’t own any device to clear any fault codes that might be generated by disconnecting the battery.

So I had it fitted by a Independent VW specialist in Stockport.

I’m not sure how often I’ll use the paddles, but the wheel feels much nicer to hand than the original. I’ve order some cheap paddle extensions from AliExpress, but not sure if I’ll fit them yet. 🤔

So this is where we are at currently, stupidly I didn't take before pics but it was a basic white Skoda Kodiaq Scout (I'll grab some pics off the net for comparison).

Up to now I've had the following done:

- matte black sprayed alloys and calipers

- side mirrors matte black

- front and rear diffusers matte black to match

- rear windows tinted a couple shades higher

I have it booked in for early September to get the roof rails and chrome to be wrapped in matte black to match and then finally the badges will be replaced with black ones and a full detail. I did have a plan to get the whole roof wrapped in black, but now I have it like this I'm worried it will be too much black and the roof rails will just blend into the roof making it a bit pointless! So I'll get all this done and see how it looks, before making a decision on the roof.

Really happy with the work upto now, nothing over the top, just hints.

EDIT: Apologies about the poor quality pics, it was starting to rain and the light was pretty low when i got it, so had to rush!

IMG_20200915_223721.thumb.jpg.a34915e688cf1c1fc1ada19651ffac95.jpgPre dechrome

IMG_20200915_223647.jpg

Car came back from the shop today after being de-chromed, man it was a big piece of work. Originally it was all to be wrapped, but the only things that are wrapped now are the chrome bits around the windows. The grill is actually connected to the front end, so the bumper had to be taken off and then the grill dismantled individually. The roof rails are bolted in underneath the liner, to access it you would have to bring down the whole liner which is a bit of a pain nowadays apparently. So they ended up being sprayed with the griThell surround. Middle pic is obviously pre dechrome, I think it's comeback really well. The last bit to complete the look is the badges and lettering to be blacked

All I did on my Yeti was to black the grille surround and bonnet badge because both were damaged, the grille was way cheaper to repair & refinish in black & the badge cost nothing to replace in black.

I wasn't interested in the look but after seeing a photo of someone elses grille surround it did look better, having done mine now (the car is royal blue) it looks far better and the grille surround being the only bit of chrome did look out of place, having seen your wheels I might do the same myself, they have knocks & scrapes & the black finish wont show the brake dust!

I got the calipers done while I was at it, would look ace if you have everything else pretty much done.

They are already black with brake dust!

If I leave the wheels long enough I wont have to lift a finger or spend any money!!

It looks really good, did you have the headlights tinted?

No, because of the way the rear lights are uneven, I think it would be a tough job. Also opens you to being pulled over by cops who don't think it's legal.

The Scout's Crater alloys, anthracite and polished spokes, plus the silver front and rear diffusers are the main reasons I bought the Scout.

All those great features that make the Scout look a bit special are lost. To me it now looks more like an SE L / Edition.

Each to their own though, as long as you like it then that's all that matters

Yeah, its the same with colours really isn't it, not to everyone's taste. My choice was between the Sportline and the Scout but i preferred the slightly smaller wheel size of the Scout (and it worked out much cheaper for me) for the better ride. This gives me an in between, looks-wise, but it clearly won't be for everyone when it comes to resale! :D
