Air con issues

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So when I brought my Octavia MK2 estate a few months back, the Air con side of things did not work. After a 30 plus degree day, I decided enough was enough and got it recharged. It holds gas, no leaks, fans kick in ok and compressor kicks in ok however It will not blow cold air. After putting it on the diagnostics, it comes back with Evaporator Sensor, short earth. Now, the question is where is this sensor located and is it easy enough to change?

Climatic or climatronic system?

It looks to be close to the pollen/cabin filter, item 28 in this diagram (climatic system) or item 29 in this one for the climatronic. Those diagrams are for LHD, so mirror everything for RHD.

@Wino Thanks for your reply, I am not sure which I have. I will upload a photo shortly but it has duel zone temp control.

Comparing those linked pages, it probably makes no difference?

Something else to bear in mind is that the sensor itself may be blameless, but a wiring fault/short-circuit may be the problem.  If you get the sensor out, and measure resistance of a few thousand (guessing here) Ohms between its contacts, it is probably OK. Look for water ingress into the connector, which might explain short-circuiting too.

Before contorting myself to remove something which may not actually be the problem I would use VCDS, go into measuring blocks and read what the compressor shut down code is.

@J.R. we did that on Friday and the cause was the evaporator sensor, so going to investigate next weekend a d hopfully solve the problem
