2.0 TDI - 150ps engine noise vs 190ps

Featured Replies

Sorry, I'm asking lots of question as a potential Karoq buyer.

I test drove the 2.0 TDi 150 yesterday and it seemed very noisy compared to my octavia 2.0 TDi 184.

What are peoples experience with engine noise?

Has anyone got the 2.0 TDI 190 or been able to compare both engines, I'm struggling to find a dealer that has a 190 demo.?

I'm leaning towards the TSI engine as it's much more refined, but want to tow as well. I know the torque is much better on the petrols now days.

The TDI-190 engine is harder to find and from reading the Skoda Media Room outlets info, it seems that Skoda struggled to make the TDI190 engine Euro 6b compliant, so it got canned.

Ive owned a 150 and a two lots of 190 engine beasts.  The 190 is a far better engine - and if you can find a manual - offers the same MPG as the 150 engine (depends on your right foot).

The TDI150 engine can seem unrefined; the latest generation of the TDI150 - is better (they revised the pistons to make it a lot more revvy and more spirited); but like most diesels (unless you have a VRS-TDI190), they are not that keen to rev.

If get-up-and-go is really your thing, I would go and look at a 2.0TSI petrol engined beast instead.

Are they 2 different engines or different maps on the ECU. From your reply would suggest they are completely different engines?

The last two 2L Diesel engines on Karoq are mechanically exactly identical ( I could not find any difference between DFFA and DFHA engines bar ECU).  150&190HP  are different to 184 on VRS (engine codes CUPA/CUNA)

Will be happy to know if I am wrong anywhere.

Somebody correcting me, that Turbocharger is different
04L253010B for 150HP and 04L253056(x) for 190HP

Yes - and the injectors are different to, but the core of the cylinder block unit is roughly the same.

Oddly enough, the TDI 272 is still available for some cars - the SUV range and the Superbe.  I would really like to see a TDI272 (dual turbos) in a VRS 4x4 in an Octavia!

The compression ratio of DFFA is 16.2, whereas the DFHA has 15.5, therefore also the cylinder head is different. Furthermore, the DFFA lacks balancing shafts in the block.

Compression rate I saw different figures from different sources, but is the balancing shaft not going only on 240hp twin turbo engines ?

Attached is an overview of Karoq and Kodiaq engines in Czech. The last row concerns the balancing shafts.
