More kerbed alloy wheels

Featured Replies

Just touched a stone kerb in Glasgow this morning at about 2mph, one of the spokes of my o/s front alloy (Octy vRS) has some nice scratches about 1" long.

Think Jason had previously recommended sanding with some wet & dry, then applying lacquer, which is exactly what I'm going to do, unless aybody has any better ideas. :)

Not really scratched badly enough to warrant a refurb.

I can't believe nobody has an opinion on this !

Have sanded the scratch right through the paint to the metal, which is a matt light grey finish. Scary how little paint is on the wheels ! Gonna have to get some silver paint to put on before the lacquer or it's just not going to look right. Does anybody know what type of paint will give the best colour match ?

How about asking the dealer? There must be some colour coding attached to them which they should know.

I've yet to scratch the face yet - my "wounds" are only around the edge of the rim at the moment. When it comes to painting wheels, I'm not even going to try and give advice. I think consulting a dealer is the best route, or an alloy refurbisher.

I only rubbed down my rubs with wet & dry, and protected them against ingress of water with a clear lacquer. I've had too many bad experiences with using touch-up paint I'm not going there again. I think the best thing is after a few months, you adapt your driving to cope with low profile wheels, and the number of times a "misjudgment" is made falls... At least it has in my case thankfully, but I now parallel park like that Nicholas Parsons of Celeb worst driver, in fear of a bashing...

My local dealer hasnae a clue !

Halfords do a "Silver" spray paint for alloy wheels - will give it a bash - if it looks fine, then great, if not it's a re-furbisher.

Annoying thing is I drove my company Focus with wheel trims for 65,000 miles without a single scuff, then nearly 20,000 in the RS, then my first scuff is a big scratch on the spokes, not even the rim !

"hasnae" - what a brilliant Scottish exclamation!

Bit like Billy Connolly's - "Gettafa!" which I don't think I need to translate.

Dad's got a client up in Livingston and I love hearing what they come out with during their meetings! Normally, shouts of, "EH! c***!" - "Getthafa in 'ere, NOOOO!"

Good luck with your alloy repair - and I sympathise with your dealer. I just got a letter from mine confirming what I was told two months ago - my dealer is stopping selling Skoda's but will continue to service them - sod that! I'm going elsewhere now my fears have been realised!
