Rapid 1.2 Petrol Fuel Cap wont open

Featured Replies

Hello

My Skoda Rapid 1.2 petrol engine has recently given me some concern as I can't get the fuel cap to open, anyone suggest anything or had a similar occurrence ?

I took it to my mate at the local garage he tried everything in his power but no luck....

I'm getting anxious now on how to solve this,

Your help is appreciated,

Thanks

Hello!

My car had the same problem, and it was a simple replacement at the garage as the locking mechanism failed. I had to get the AA out to break mine open (broke off the little hook it uses to lock shut) using plastic wedges.

There's a few threads about it in the Rapid forum, but here's one below that might be of use:

Thanks for the reply WolfyWesty, I have taken the car to another garage today hopefully he can sort it. my mate did already try to wedge it open but was concerned it may break the cap!

I'm assuming you got this sorted by now, though I just thought I'd share my way of 'encouraging' the flap to open;

At filling station, get out, lock doors, a couple of knocks on the filler flap with hand, then cycle the lock/unlock a couple of times and it always pops open.

I really should just get it fixed - from what I read on the linked thread it appears to be a new solenoid required - but the above works every time, so it's treated as more of a quirk of the car now! Oh, and the above was found out due to frustration one day - brute force and hitting stuff sometimes proves useful.

In any case, I hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the reply Mintyfresh yes I got it sorted. The inside motor mechanism became faulty and needed replacing, so it wasn't as simple as tapping it to open!
