Alright chaps.  Got an issue with 07 vRS clutch.

 

The pedal goes down and I can get the car in gear.  The pedal doesn't return.  If I lift it up with my foot the clutch engages.

 

Obviously this makes driving impossible 🤣

 

Master cylinder?

Almost certainly.

Any point to bleed the system first or check if slave is leaking?

VRS uses a concentric slave hidden inside the bellhousing, much easier and cheaper to replace the master and bleed the entire system.
